Setting Makeup

Recommended Posts

I love Estee Lauder's Lucidity pressed powder. I bought another 2 compacts on board the ship last week which is my best price. Love the stuff but I'm not from a humid climate. We live in hot dry summers and cold dry winters.

I started buying it on a cruise to the Panama and it just out did all my other stuff. So I keep searching and failing to find a cheaper alternative that works as well and keep coming back to it. I dust it on with a blush brush which always works for me. I think the recent purchase makes about 5 that I've bought, 4 on board, one here on land at home when I ran out between cruises. (which is why I buy in twos now). 10% discount on the first 2 days of the cruise including embarkation day so go then if you are going to spend 50$ or more.

That all said, Lucidity is my best bet when I do hit humidity. I usually don't bother with foundation on board so I use it as a setting powder to keep sunscreen from traveling into my eyes and stinging. The Lucidity does the job and the last cruise photos we had done, I was wearing it and sunscreen like usual and the photo looks great. It adds a little something to blur lines and it seems to do that for me but your mileage may vary as they say. I think of it as a sort of almost powder foundation. Never looks caked on when I use the blush brush to apply and dust off the excess.

This subject has come up once before and a poster recommended something other than the normal face primer.......now don't laugh until you try it.:D I tried it, now it's what I use and it's just so darn CHEAP. Here are 2 blogs with details, one that even compares it with Smashbox.

I learned about this stuff from this board and it is amazing! I use it as a primer and much more. I have learned so much from everyone here but have never had much to add, but you should really try the Monistat chaffing cream, it works. Just one more note I have very sensitive fair skin and this caused NO problems, just baby soft dry skin.

Start with a good primer, then foundation, then a dust of powder.

Now dip a cotton square in iced water, wring it out, then press lightly all over face. You may need to refresh it if you are in a warm room. Dust again with powder if necessary.

I learnt this trick many many years ago and it really does help. Primers make it even better.

I agree wholeheartedly with Cindy123. This may be the very best tip/hint I've read over the years on cruise critics. IT WORKS like a dream and I keep more of my cold, hard cash for more important things--like travel!
