Priya2 Posted March 27, 2015 #826 Share Posted March 27, 2015 New here, and first time cruiser next month (March 2015) so please be kind if this should be apparent, is on another thread or has already been answered. Quoting from above, "Written Restrictions and Jeans: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, tank tops, caps and poolwear are not allowed in the main or specialty restaurants. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed during evening hours. As long as jeans don't have holes, rips or tears, they are permitted on "Smart Casual and Above" nights." Specifically about "shorts and flip-flops are not allowed during evening hours.". Does this refer to restaurants specifically, or ship-wide? E.g. are shorts and casual shoes allowed when walking the decks and halls in the evening? How about evening outside on the lawn and bar near the bar (Sunset?)? Using the hot tub in the evening-Ok to use elevators to my room in a cover-up? Don't worry. That's normal attire under those circumstances, except that a cover up in the elevator shouldn't look obviously like beach wear. A sundress type is fine. Enjoy 😀
Priya2 Posted March 27, 2015 #827 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Cruising Summit and see X website states no shorts or flip flops in the evening on the "ship". Is this an enforced rule? What if I'm at the pool? Does no one "dress down/day causal" in the evenings? Being forced to wear, what I call Business Casual, in the evenings defeats the purpose of a vacation. I do understand dressing for a nice plated dinner setting, but that's it. Please advice as I'm practically buying a new wardrobe for this cruise and not liking it. As Gek said, together with my reply above to another poster. That's all fine. No need to worry. Enjoy your cruise. 😀

Enjoy 😀 The dress code quoted above which Priya2 quoted refers only to the restaurants, whether they be regular or specialty, this portion of the dress code was changed about five years ago so going into the elevator with a cover-up is perfectly acceptable. LijeBaley Posted March 27, 2015 #829 Share Posted March 27, 2015 ...t is my opinion that those who talk about tuxedos, gowns and dinner jackets being a silly pretense, but then use a picture of themselves in a tux for their profile picture - are obviously off the chart "silly." But hey, its just my opinion and I don't see that that opinion disparages you. ;) I agree 100%. I certainly don't feel disparaged  And yes, I did smile as I selected my profile picture. I don't object to the wearing, just the requiring. And you really didn't want to see me in spandex and helmet did you?

Beanb41 Posted March 27, 2015 #831 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Just off the Solstice and I spent most of my time in the evenings wearing casual clothing. I have even seen shorts and T shirts in the theatre on a formal night so I wouldn't get too hung up on it. The rules also say no shorts or t shirts in the MDR but that only is applied at night times and sometimes even not then if the shorts are tailored and the shirt has a collar. If one wants to adopt a "casual" attitude for one's cruise then one wont be alone as many do and you know what no one cares because they are too busy enjoying their own holiday. The buffet at night has large numbers of people still in their "daywear" and again no one cares.
Negrilgirl Posted March 29, 2015 #832 Share Posted March 29, 2015 What is the dress code in Blu for breakfast? Beachwear with cover ups? Shorts and flip flops? Thanks for any reponses! [emoji41]
Cruising Cubs Fan Posted March 29, 2015 #833 Share Posted March 29, 2015 What is the dress code in Blu for breakfast? Beachwear with cover ups? Shorts and flip flops? Thanks for any reponses! [emoji41] Dinner is smart casual, you don't have to dress formal for formal nights but many do gents in jackets and ties, ladies in dresses skirts. Breakfast you can wear shorts, etc. check on the website to make sure or ask when on board. I have not seen swimsuits with coverups ever. They do not serve lunch. Hope this helps
smithcvs Posted March 30, 2015 #834 Share Posted March 30, 2015 We are regular "Eclipsers" of some 5 cruises on this ship so are aware of most things. In her wisdom for some reason my wife has booked us on a 2 night "A taste of Luxury" in 5 weeks time from Southampton to France and back over 2 nights. Always being one to conform I have pondered as to whether there will be formal dining wear on one of these nights. However the paperwork and the website are unclear about this. So, I have emailed customer relations 7 days ago and asked this question but to date I have not received a reply. They do say that they aim to reply to questions within 28 days (they call it customer service no doubt, but not as I know it). I appreciate that I could telephone them to the UK or USA on a premium rate telephone call which I refuse to do. Had my paperwork have explained the issue I would not be asking the question. Up to now, I have booked online; paid direct; printed the luggage labels; printed the Xpass; and up to now Celebrity have done very little other than ignore me. We really do love the Eclipse but the customer service isn't what I would expect it to be. So, in a nutshell if anyone knows whether there is a formal night on this trip I would be eternally grateful. Thank you and kind regards.

The only thing they would object to is a bathing suit.

Kathamo Posted March 31, 2015 #841 Share Posted March 31, 2015 It has been a while since I've sailed - I think it is well-established by now that jeans are permitted on "smart casual" nights; however, I am someone who is not comfortable wearing the minimum of what is permitted and would prefer to be in the median or a little on the formal side of the median. If my husband wears jeans with a collared shirt and a jacket in the MDR on a "smart casual" night, is he going to be one of the most casual people in the room (except for the odd outlier), or will he fit right in? I told him to pack khakis or slacks, but after browsing this thread for a while, it seems like jeans are perfectly OK (and he would prefer it, since apparently there is a shortage of khakis and slacks in our house at the moment). If he's wearing a jacket on smart casual night, he'll already be in the upper 20% of men in the MDR. As long as the jeans aren't ratty, he'll fit right in. I'd estimate 30-50% of all men wear jeans on smart casual nights. And once you sit down, nobody notices what pants anyone is wearing anyway. Jeans are very much dependent on the itinerary, you might see 30 to 50% in jeans on an Alaska cruise but not in the Caribbean, most will be in khakis. I'm going to Bermuda in two months, jeans won't even see my suitcase and I live in them in the Winter.

I'm going to Bermuda in two months, jeans won't even see my suitcase and I live in them in the Winter. Good point. Certainly a hot vs cool destination thing for many people. We're mostly 'jeans people', although I do bring more khakis on a warm-month Caribean cruise just because it's often so darn hot. And they do pack lighter, which is important for a 14+ day trip (50 lbs goes fast). I've pretty much had my fill of the Caribbean/Bahamas by now, to be honest. I'm always on the lookout for more northern cruises. Unfortunately, cruiselines offer very little in the way of northern itineraries from US ports (other than carbon-copy Alaska and New England/Canada itineraries). DYKWIA Posted April 1, 2015 #845 Share Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) Family friends have just got back from a cruise around the Caribbean with Celebrity - the talk on board is that from today the dress code on Formal nights will no longer be enforced at all across all ships. Further, that from now on every Friday night they will be trialing "Dress Down Friday" where people will be encouraged to dress more casually aiming for a more raucous party atmosphere in the MDR Edited April 1, 2015 by DYKWIA

From our 13-day Asia cruise last year on Millennium. Perhaps that was an exception, but we really didn't find Celebrity to be significantly more upscale than RCCL. Seemed pretty interchangeable, in fact.
