Swapping out Concierge Sparkling Wine?

This may seem a little silly, but we are booked in a concierge stateroom for our upcoming cruise, and are supposed to receive a bottle of sparkling wine. How willing are they to swap out this bottle of wine for another? I am pregnant, and I see that the wine list includes Sutter Home Fre "alcohol removed" wine (which I remember liking when I tried it in the past). Do you think our stateroom attendant would be willing to trade our sparkling wine for a bottle of the alcohol free stuff? OR should we just take the sparkling wine home and keep it for after the baby is born?

Generally, it seems that they are open to making such swaps, just speak with your cabin steward once on board.

I've read of some swapping sparkling for a red wine, and some for bottled water or a bucket of beers even.

Bear in mind the pricing of the free stuff versus what you may want it swapped out for will have bearing on the outcome, I have no idea of the value of the free stuff nor what you want in its place. I feel like you can buy a bottle of the free stuff for $15 or so on board, so make sure your preferred substitute is similarly priced to ensure the best outcome.

On our recent millennium cruise, we asked our steward to swap that free bottle for red wine. Not only did he get us a bottle of the same wine they serve in the elite lounge, but he never even took the sparkling wine which we left there and never drank. Congrats on the baby and I'm sure you'll have no problems swapping the wine. You can also bring the bottle to dinner with no corkage charge.

We asked our steward and he exchanged it with great Chilean white wine. Even sommelier didn't have it in MDR...

No guarantee that your Room Steward will be able to (or want to) do a swap for you...

Personally I would have a chat with your Sommelier at Dinner... We have found that the Soms are very accommodating, knowledgeable... And they would have a far easier making a change happen as "wine is their Dept"

Cheers!

We had the drink package, so it wasn't really of any use to us. I learned that our table-mates were big white wine fans, but were on a strict budget, so I left a nice note (and a few dollars) for our room steward with a request that it be substituted for a bottle of white. Our table-mates were thrilled.

As my wife and I don't drink, we asked the sommelier in Blu if there was a non-alcoholic wine that we could exchange the wine for. He provided a very nice bottle of non-alcoholic sparking wine. I'm generally not impressed with these, but this was very tasty. Good luck with whatever you decide and have a great cruise. BTW it was on the Equinox.

I didn't have any luck swapping ours out on the Century or Summit, so it might depend on the ship or who you happen to speak to. I'll be trying again on our upcoming Equinox, I figure it's worth a try!

We always take our bottle to Customer Service, give them the bottle and they deliver something more to our taste.

Its not silly to think about this. As suggested ask your attendant, guest services or dining staff to swap for the non-alcoholic version. Then you are able to "toast" to your upcoming addition.

If for some unseen reason they choose not to swap, take it home and save it for a special occasion (christening, first sleep thru the night, 1/2 year birthday).

Congratulations Mom to Be!!

I should correct myself. I had no luck swapping the bottle out on the Century, I obviously asked the wrong person, but on the Summit we had the drink pkg, so we didn't use the bottle in our stateroom. I asked and asked, but couldn't find anyone that wanted to take the bottle off our hands. Our stateroom attendant said with the drink pkgs more and more bottles are left unopened and he said they do recycle the unopened ones. Guessing they have extra labels to paste on for the next passengers!

On that same cruise I won the slot tourney and part of the prize was two free drink coupons. I asked everyone in the casino, but nobody wanted those drink coupons, I guess everyone also had the drink pkg. Boy, things have changed!
