What is the policy of smoking on the Reflection specifically in the MDR? Am I correct that smoking in cabins is prohibited?

From the Celebrity website:

Q: What is the onboard smoking policy?

A: For your comfort and enjoyment, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the ship. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator, or corridor. This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda. If you are in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to your SeaPass® account and you may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises Cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence.

Wait. What?

Smoking is NOT allowed in the casino? Are my eyes deceiving me? Someone pinch me!

Our last cruises were on NCL, and we had to hold our breath walking through the casino because of all the smoking. My clothing and hair smelled like smoke after playing the slots for 20 minutes.

I am beyond thrilled to know that I can happily lose my money in the casino without smelling of smoke!!!!!!

Yay for smoke-free casinos!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Cheers for Celebrity's Clean Air (No Smoking) Policy !!!

I agree with everyone above, it is wonderful that there is no smoking in Cabins, on Balconies or any of the indoor areas of the ship (including the Casino)

For the record, smoking s restricted to the following areas... Port side only.

Deck 5 / outside near the lifeboats

Pool Deck

Sun Deck above the pool

*Oceanview Bar / Buffet Back Deck

Sunset Bar (found aft on S-Class Ships)

There is no other spaces outdoors where smoking is permitted... So not on the Lawn, or at The Lawn Club or The Porch Cafes on S-Class Ships

* Oceanview Bar / Buffet Back Deck - Portside... has recently been reported as now having gone NON SMOKING. This is welcome news, as it was the last of the Dining venues on the ships where smoking was permitted.

Additionally, Celebrity has specific areas in the above listed smoking spots where Cigar or Pipe Smokers are permitted to indulge (very limited spaces)

If you are a Non-Smoker, or just don't like second hand smoke Celebrity's Clean Air Policy makes it very easy to avoid the smokers... Just stick with the Starboard side when you are outdoors

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

Celebrity has been a leader in the movement towards restrictions on smoking on cruise ships. It has been clear for years that Celebrity values their non-smoking customer base. It is one of the reasons my wife and I have settled on Celebrity as our cruise line of choice. Neither one of us has every smoked, and we despise having to deal with second hand smoke. Celebrity has made our cruises better with it's strict no-smoking policy.

And Celebrity is doing quite well in spite of all the loud wailing at the time by the naysayers who predicted failure when the policy was first rolled out. It is telling that all of the major lines are gradually following Celebrity's lead.

Just disembarked Summit on 10/25. After learning about port side of Sunset Bar turning nonsmoking (effective first day of my sailing, without prior notice), I had a conversation with Paul Kelley, the ship's HD, who I was introduced to in Michael's Club. He told me that many people had strongly voiced a similar concern.

Apparently, he listened. The following night ashtrays were only put out in the evenings, after the last meal - usually around 9:30 pm - and it worked out just fine. There was no smoking all other times, when folks were enjoying breakfast, lunch & dinner. If Congress could learn to negotiate like this, maybe things would start getting done in this country.....

BTW, I received an invitation to dine at the Captain's Table shortly thereafter.:)

Although I did see some people smoking exits in Cafe al Bacio and the poor waitress was too scared to approach the woman. Ecigs should not be allowed indoors in my opinion...sorry

Ecigs are not allowed indoors according to the rules a few posts back. They are treated the same as regular cigarettes.

Actually e-cigs are not the same as smoking, they are "vaping" as they vaporize their contents not burn it. Like a steaming hot shower makes water vapor.

I'm a purveyor of such things and keep well in tune with the changes in technology related to them. If you didn't "see" with one, you'd never know they were doing it unless they have choses a flavored variety of liquid for their device. Vaporizers will not affect asthmatics or those with allergies any more than boiling water steam may.

Studies in the UK have shown a marked decrease in medical issues relative to vaporizers being used, that well offsets the potential for more people to start the habit. Unfortunately the USA has not yet done such studies.

However the rules of X clearly do prohibit them, the rules based years past on older technology that is no longer in general use.

I've been on 4 Celebrity cruises since I started vaping . I am very careful not to bother anyone else with my choices. However, we vape - we do not smoke and I absolutely refuse to have to go to the smoking section. Instant headache for me if I get around smoke. And I vape no nicotine so don't worry about breathing in my exhaled vapor. I also vape on my balcony and in my stateroom so if you smell waffles or caramel popcorn, it is probably me. No need to start telling me the rules- I already know.:)

There's lots of people who skip lots of rules on ships.

The vaper's are some, those who dine in MDR on formal night without formal attire, those who show up at the pier before their assigned boarding times when specific boarding times happen, those who save seats by the pool, those who smuggles extra booze on the ship, those who bring extension cords.....basically anyone who gets pulled aside at X-ray screening was a rule breaker. Anyone who gets called to the "naughty luggage room" is a rule breaker.

So smokers aren't the only ones "not following the rules" by any stretch of the imagination.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.... :D

This does not address the fact that those who have the Aft facing balconies on deck 11 still must endure smoke when trying to enjoy the evening out there. I had hoped this new change was partly for their sake also.

Celebrity is a leader in the industry in having smoke free enviroments. Dan Hanrahan (the last CEO of Celebrity) said it was one of his proudest accomplishements.

E-cigs are a tricky area, Unlike cigarettes their business is booming especially among high school students growing from 5-10% in one year. They still contain many of the same carcinogens as regular cigarettes just on a lesser level Due to inconsistency or lack of quality control in

manufacturing, so they emit different amounts of nicotine with each puff

The AMA’s (American Medical Association) recently suggested regulations to include a minimum age of purchase; childproof packaging; restrictions on flavors that appeal to young people, and a ban on unsupported claims that the devices help people quit smoking, preventing the marketing of e-cigarettes to minors.

A new study published in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research found that e-cigarettes are a source of second-hand exposure to nicotine, but not of other compounds released when tobacco is burned. And the nicotine exposure was 10 times less than that from tobacco smoke.

However, another recent study from New York University researchers reported that e-cigarette smokers may not be spared such exposures. They inhale more nicotine because they puff more often and tend to breathe in more deeply than regular cigarette smokers. So higher nicotine consumption may be a risk for e-cig smokers

BTW I quit smoking about 8 years ago, it was the hardest thing I ever did. Thank God for the Mayo Clinic's smoking cessation program. Oddly I guess, I still like the smell of a cigarette, but also know that smoking of vape-ing puts a lot of bad chemicals in your system, so as long as you accept that and don't put me in harms way I have no problem with it in appropriate areas

No smoking ANYWHERE INDOORS on Celebrity anymore. Only a few designated outdoor locations that are mostly avoidable. :D

Not to be argumentative, I almost cancelled my cruise due to their biased restrictions.

I smoke very little but enjoy a cig on the balcony. At 20 knots traveling, I contend there is no exposure to others. Then they have the absurd policy of E-cigs. Mine smells of cinnamon and my wife who hates smoking doesn't mind. Water vapor is certainly not going to bother anyone. I'll be the one on my balcony with my cinnamon ecig, reading. Regarding the AMA, what would you expect. Hell, in CO I can buy MJ for my ecig and you would not know the difference.

Logic and sanity has left us long ago. Anyway, I sucked it up and continued my booking but will considers others next year.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have been on balconies next to smokers at 20 knots traveling, and it was so bad that we had to go inside and CLOSE our balcony door to avoid the smoke.

Oh, and I hate the smell of fake cinnamon. You can bet that if I get strange smells from the people next door coming into my balcony, I will alert someone to it.

If you are so intent on breaking the rules before you even get on board, perhaps you should cruise on a line that actually allows smoking on the balcony, so no worries and no annoyances to the other passengers.

Smoking on your balcony (a real cigarette) puts others in danger of being burned alive or drowning when the ship sinks because it's on fire. That's exposure to others at 0 knots or 20.

If you can't abide by the cruise companies rules then don't sail with them, it's not up to you to decide which you think are right or wrong.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.... :D

Many of those who get pulled aside at X-ray screening are people who should not pass through metal detectors, for one valid reason or another.

Most will notify the security guard in advance, get taken aside and patted down.

But there are some who just try to go through the machine each time anyway and set off the alarm before they get pulled aside, even though they are not rule breakers either.

Also, anyone who gets called to the "naughty luggage room" is not necessarily a rule breaker.

Some people travel with allowable medical devices in their checked luggage that are not initially recognized as such when x-rayed, and therefore their luggage may be held for later inspection.

So indeed, Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.... :D

What if it's discovered that that "strange smell" that you'll be reporting is not coming from an ecig, but is instead a woman (or man, for that matter:)) reeking of cheap perfume?

And, Cle-guy: you're my hero. I had thought that posters on these boards always march in lock-step with The Man.:D

Do I get to pick out a stone to cast?

I always dress appropriately on formal night (as well as all other nights); I don't show up earlier than I am supposed to; I don't save seats by the pool {or in the theater); I don't smuggle extra booze (I don't even bring on what I am allowed); I don't bring extension cords (or irons, steamers, etc.). To be absolutely honest, I have a hard time understanding why people can't just follow the rules - I do without any problem or effort. It really isn't difficult at all.

So, who do I get to cast my stone towards? ;)

After reading your self centered attitude and behavior, I wish you HAD cancelled you cruise, and hope you cancel any that I might be on. I don't appreciate blatant rules breakers who think they are better than everyone else.

And you obviously have been lying to yourself about your smoke not affecting anyone at 20 knots. The smoke goes somewhere, and that is always the nearest cavity down wind - the next balcony - where a vacuum will form that sucks your horrid smoke into it, much like river water swirling around an indentation in the shore line. Your selfish disregard for the rules affects your neighbors negatively - a fact you apparently could care less about.
