bigdave35 Posted November 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2014 When do the luggage porters start taking bags for the Ruby? I'd like to drop off the bags then return the rental car and catch a cab back to the dock.
Sox Fan Cruiser Posted November 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2014 They start pretty early. We always get to port by 11, go drop off the rental and come back. And there are usually many bags ahead of us already. Not sure if others on here know the exact time they start.
islandatsea Posted November 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2014 We usually get to Port Everglades @ 10:30am & the porters are taking bags during that time. Not sure when they actually start.
Corfe Mixture Posted November 3, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2014 When do the luggage porters start taking bags for the Ruby? I'd like to drop off the bags then return the rental car and catch a cab back to the dock. We do exactly and you are planning and drive up to the terminal drop off the bags and then take the car to FLL. Last December we dropped the bags off around 09.30. When looking at rental costs, do not forget that National/Alamo have a free shuttle back from the airport to the cruise terminal. Others don't and you need to take a cab at around $15. You can also take the Princess shuttle from the airport and get it charged to your stateroom but this is definitely a bad deal as their prices are fixed per person and reflects the fact that they expect you to have lots of baggage. Statement of the obvious, but just remember to keep all your personal papers with you and not to leave them in your baggage as you will need them to gain re-entry to the cruise terminal after dropping off the rental car. Definitely, IMHO the most civilised way of starting the cruise.

When we enter the port in a taxi all we have to show is our passport or drivers license.
Rare geoherb Posted November 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 3, 2014 We got to the port around 8:15 this past spring for our cruise on the Ruby. The porters were there, ready to take our checked bags. We had an early morning direct flight, which I don't recommend, but it worked out on that cruise.
