Bruce62 Posted November 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Hi, We are looking to go on the Breakaway next August, having spent 3 days in Boston. The 8.40 Amtrak from Boston gets to Penn Station at 12.42pm, will this give me enough time to reach the cruise terminal or should we get the 6.40? Many thanks... mjkacmom Posted November 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Take the earlier train - it's not always on time.
Totsiejen14 Posted November 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Take the earlier tran. Last time I took Amtrak out of Philadelphia (train coming from NY) it was delayed 1 hour and 45 minutes. Better safe then sorry to get their to early then to late.
meatball_nyc Posted November 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 16, 2014 (edited) August means 4:00 sailaway. Need to be onboard by 2:00 the latest. Check in begins any time after 9am or so. Actual boarding will begin at approx 11:30am. Take the earlier train. Have fun! ~Robin Every Day at Sea is a Great Day Edited November 16, 2014 by meatball_nyc
puddles99 Posted November 16, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 16, 2014 I'll be the dissenting vote - I don't see any reason to take the earlier train (other than my personal preference to be on board by lunchtime). In the end, only you can decide what's best for you and what level of risk you're comfortable with. Good luck! EBONI325 Posted November 16, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 16, 2014 I would take the earlier train myself, I travel a lot from Ct to NYC and sometimes Amtrak is 1-2 hours late, not too often but why take a chance.
johnsak123 Posted November 16, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Take the earlier train If there is an issue with that train at least there is another one to still get you to NY in time Better safe than sorry
Bruce62 Posted November 16, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Thanks all, With a 4.00pm sail away, I think we will go for the earlier train......
susie8862 Posted November 16, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Thanks all, With a 4.00pm sail away, I think we will go for the earlier train...... Smart move. This means you should be arriving in Penn Station approximately 10:30 to 11:00 am. By the time you exit the doors on 8th Ave. and hail a cab to the port (only a 5-10 minute ride), you will have everything perfectly timed for boarding the ship and checking in. Have a great cruise. We loved the Breakaway.
luvtheships Posted November 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Take the earliest train possible as Amtrak is notoriously late And have plan b in the works If there is a breakdown or massive delay call a limo service... Take a cab to a car rental... Or to the nearest metro north new haven station Just sayin.... But I would come in the day before and enjoy a night on NYC Sent from my iPhone using Forums

puddles99 Posted November 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Have you ever taken Amtrak? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Yes I have. Many times. Obviously the OP has selected to take the more conservative choice, as supported by many here, but I don't see why I can't offer a different opinion. Each traveler has to make their own choices; I simply shared the one I'd make. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app The only problem IMHO with your differing opinion is that it is not actually the best advice to give the op Amtrak is notoriously delayed on this corridor. That is a very important issue especially with taking the later train The op could miss the ship by taking the later train. Differing opinions are great but not when it is bad advice. If I agreed with you on your opinion, I too would be guilty of giving bad advice. Cutting it way too close, even if the train is on time.
