Diamond Princess Concerns

Smoking was allowed in the Casino but for some reason the Casino doors were left open and this allowed the smoke to drift into the Atrium causing some discomfort. Also there was a section of the Promenade Deck that allowed smoking. As this deck was used as a healthy walking track for many passengers who had to traverse through a section of 2nd hand smoke I found this hard to understand.

The smoking section one has to walk through on the Promenade deck is really not a big deal. I just hold my breath and walk faster to get away from it. I'd rather the smoking section not even be there, but I'd rather it be there than smoking on a balcony and breathing it.

Your other negatives were understandable. Policies on any ship are rarely to never enforced. The policy is there to make one think that they enforce it when they don't.

There will always be some things that you don't like on any cruise ship. However I have found Princess to be one of the best, along with Celebrity. Take what you like, ignore the rest, you are on holidays and this is better than being at home. Embrace the different cultural aspects, both with staff and passengers. I have met some fantastic people and enjoyed their stories of their lifestyles and backgrounds. Go with the flow.

Have been on the Diamond (Beijing to Singapore/Singapore to Sydney) and love the ship. Having said that though I would not hold my breath waiting for Princess to do anything about your complaints. I have never yet come across anyone who has had any success with Princess in relation to issues they have encountered. Certainly they have never addressed any of my concerns which have been formally reported on - even though I do not have many.:)

I could have written that post myself :D

I've pointed out an error three (3) times with no result:

on a printed notice about how you should fill a form regarding disembarking in Japan which (the form) asked that you answer using CHECK MARKS, Diamond was very helpful in providing a sample form BUT according to that you should use BIG EXES (X) instead of the check marks.

I think that they have adopted the Japanese way of working: the boss is always right and if you are an employee (getting a complaint from a client, a customer or a cruiser) you don't want to be the one to tell your boss that he screwed up something

If I may add this: The Captain90 is right :) and CrusinKiki is wrong

If small errors were corrected maybe you would not have norovirus incidents ... which may be caused by the same shortcomings in adressing problems!

Having written that, I am not a Diamond hater: I have been on three cruises on that ship and I have a 21 day cruise planned in Asia on it.

That is why I care and I think that people shoud speak out if things are to be better.

Should I worry? We are planning a cruise in Japan next summer. I'm becoming concerned while reading this.

My daughter speaks minimal Japanese (she says she's on the level of a decent 6 year old.) I speak none. Her experience while studying in Tokyo is that everyone there had studied English but many were shy about speaking it as their studies focused on written English.

We've had CMs of many nationalities on many ships, but the main requirement for any position that involved dealing with guests has been an excellent command of spoken English. The fact that one at guest relations didn't meet this requirement is a bit concerning.

The OP's post is over 1 year old. Have you read any recent reviews?

I didn't notice the date as it showed up today on the recent posts (due to the comment above mine). Yes' date=' at your earlier suggestion, I have started searching posts regarding the Diamond.[/quote']

The last 3 posts from Aug 15/1 from March 15/ the rest from Nov 2014 ;)

I got offhe three weeks ago, albeit in Aus and NZ and had NONE of the problems OP spoke of.

I saw a number of people at the Pursers desk, speaking a range of languages and they always seemed to find someone to talk with them.

  • 3 weeks later...

We just booked a 21 day cruise, rnd trip from Singapore over Christmas and New Years 2016. We wanted a long cruise in warm weather over the holidays and we have done the Caribbean several times. After reading some of the posts we hope we will be happy with the changes made to the Diamond. We have cruised all over the world so the combining of cultures will be welcome to us. The itinerary sounds interesting and it will give us the opportunity to visit some ports we have missed in the past like Phuket, Bangkok, Bali and Nha Trang while revisiting Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh city and Koh Samui which we loved. We will stay glued to CC for more info and encouragement from those who cruise on the Diamond throughout 2016.

Happy New Year everyone,

Sissy

Agree with this two hundred percent.... Princess are REALLY bad at dealing with complaints, enforcing policies, or making changes to bad policies. Some staff are better than others, but generally the 'customer service' people, we have dealt with can be a little confrontational and eye-rolling when you come with a complaint.. It's just one of those annoying things. I wish they would up their standards there!! (maybe I should complain lol) Having said that, we travel with Princess and have booked for Oct 2016 ... you have to take the bad with the mostly good... and they are mostly good!
