nonamexd Posted December 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2014 I have read the dress code. I plan on wearing a dress shirt and slacks. But I'm not sure if boat shoes would be considered formal or would I be sent back? This is my first cruise ever. I've read quite a few things. Butterbean1000 Posted December 8, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 8, 2014 Those will be fine. I can dress my husband up, but he insists on wearing his Nike's. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
poison7fl Posted December 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 8, 2014 I've seen people wear their sunday best jeans... As long as you are not in shorts and wife beater, they won't stop you.
PrincessPoopdeck Posted December 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 12, 2014 Was so outdone this past cruise. Matre'd allowed a young woman (about 19-22) in the MDR on elegant night wearing shorts that would have made Daisy Duke blush. Carnival should be updated that this is not anyone's idea of elegant. Why can't they have the dress code put out at the entrance to MDR and enforce it.
ahoughton Posted December 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) Cruise Elegant is not what it once was. The dress code states that the following attire is not allowed in the restaurants: Jeans, men's sleeveless shirts, shorts, t-shirt's, sports wear, baseball hats, flip flops and bathing suit attire. On cruise casual nights you may wear shorts but not gym or basketball shorts or cut off jeans. I remember the day men had to wear long pants (no jeans) and a collared shirt on casual night. I wouldn't worry about boat shoes. It just says no flip flops. There hasn't been enforcement in a long time. The dress code could be posted on a big sign in bright neon letters and there are some who would either ignore it or say "Oh. I didn't see that." Enforcing it seems to vary from ship to ship, and depends on how attentive the Maitre D and staff are at any given moment. While it may be a topic of discussion at the table during dinner, I can honestly say that what someone else chooses to wear at dinner has never stopped us from enjoying our dinner. I believe the main reason the dress code is not enforced is that when it is, people who have not adhered to it do one of a couple of things. They either stiff the wait staff even though the waiters and assistants aren't the ones doing it. Or two, they write to Carnival and complain and no one at Carnival will back up the employee doing the enforcement. It's a mark against them as is any complaint. I do wish they would either drop it entirely, but we know that the ones who dress as they wish now would probably get worse, or enforce it and have the complaints written to Carnival about the dress code not count against those who are doing their job.
