debshomespun Posted December 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) We will be on Rhapsody 2/17/15 and I cannot find the address for the port. Where does Rhapsody dock, and is it possible to walk to any of the beaches in New Castle? We are unsure of what to do at this port. We love adventure and the beaches, any suggestions? The ship docks at Carrington (opposite Stockton), which is to the north of the city. It would be about 8 klm's to city centre (guessing) Cruises normally provide a free shuttle into the city centre. It is then a short walk to Nobby's Beach. You can then walk around to Newcastle Beach past the Cowrie Hole and the beach baths (sea water swimming pool). Check on Google maps for idea of distance. https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Newcastle+NSW/@-32.9217809,151.7743673,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x6b7314688ef5ea75:0x5017d6816333f40

I am from Nelson Bay, which is 60 klm's from Newcastle. Nelson Bay is a tourist centre and part of Port Stephens. There are dolphin watching and swim with dolphin cruises. Stockton Bight has extensive sand hills with camel rides, quad bikes 4wd adventure tours and sand boarding, http://www.portstephens.org.au/see-and-do/the-sand-dunes. Other attractions are Murray's craft brewery http://www.murraysbrewingco.com.au/, wineries, shark and ray centre, Barramundi farm, Oakvale farm http://www.oakvalefarm.com.au/with Australian native animals with the highlight being able to pat a Koala. Happy to answer any questions.
megsie Posted December 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) The City of Newcastle provide the free shuttles from ship to Queens Wharf area on the harbour. Then just follow the harbour towards the sea, a couple of hundred metres to Nobbys Beach (patrolled). Easy walking. You can then follow the sea shoreline south (great walk) along pass the Art Deco Ocean Baths and then to Newcastle Beach. When we were on Radiance we had a cannon salute when we entered the harbour (propably woke up half the city). Some have had it when leaving. Usual tours to wine country, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie all about 1to 1 1/2 hours drive. If you like walking, King Edward Park in Newcastle has great coastal/city views - walking a bit harder to get there. Also Fort Scratchley above Nobby's Beach has a series of underground tunnels from WW2 with historical displays and great views if you like that sort of thing - check opening times. The_Big_M Posted December 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2014 The City of Newcastle provide the free shuttles from ship to Queens Wharf area on the harbour. That makes sense. Many cruises that put on shuttles charge for them, so if they're free, they're usually from the local administration.
