Twice we had to see the ship's doctor. The first time, our travel insurance covered it as they were considered primary.

the second time, the travel insurance was secondary. we sent the bill to our regular medical insurance. turns out, our medical insurance covers international doctors as in network since we have no choice who to see. however, if they had not covered it, our travel insurance would have - as long as we sent them the bill and the explanation of benefits denying reimbursement.

for both above, we had travel guard.
