MS Prinsendam & MS Westerdam Sail-Away January 3, 2014

I hadn't realized it was Captain van der Loo on board the Westerdam. He use to be on the Oosterdam alot when stationed in SD. Nice man just not up to Captain van Eerten's tooting ability.

FLL NE cam has been showing good shots of the pilot pick-ups on the last few ships. Maybe will zoom in on the W also.

 

Pilot boat #5 is waiting out there - here she comes alongside port side - that will not be an easy job tonight!

That looks like a tricky maneuver . . .wouldn't want to have to jump from one to the other!

Do the pilots ever miss and wind up in the water? If so, who rescues?

 

Not very often but it has happened; the pilot boat crew primarily, with the cruise ship's crew (life buoys, etc.). Pilots always wear life vests when going down the ladder. Most of those guys (and ladies) are very experienced and have done it numerous times

no, oh heck no, you wouldn't see me doing that. I would be ok going up, but would fail on the down part.

Oasis returning to Fort Lauderdale but they would not give the reason over the radio. Interesting......

Maybe I'm wrong but I just looked at Marine Traffic and the Oasis OTS does not appear to be returning to port. I am interested because we have friends on it.
