davelliott Posted January 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Sorry, it has taken so long for me to organize my photos and get ready to post these food pics for you. As many people have noted, there were a few glitches on this sailing. The TV had a list of the menus for each night of the cruise, but many were wrong. We ate in Specialty Restaurants two nights, so I don't know which menus were used in the MDR those nights. Out of the remaining nights, only four of the menus listed on the TV were correct. We had asked our headwaiter for the list of which menus were going to be served each night so that we could decide when to reserve our Specialty Restaurants. I can't locate that list now, but it too was wrong most nights. This is the list of which menu was served which nights: 1: Mojo 2: Saffron 3: Sage 4: ?, we ate in Chops 5: Coconut 6: Arugula 7: Jasmine 8: Shiitake 9: Chives 10: ?, we ate in Solarium Bistro 11: Tarragon 12: Pomodoro

I couldn't locate many of these menus before going on this 12 night cruise, so I hope that anybody looking for these can use them as they decide what they might wish to order. davelliott Posted January 19, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted January 19, 2015 UNV-IT!!! you are so right. We spent three days in London, one day in Southampton, and then 12 on the Oasis. We flew back to RDU in North Carolina the same day that we got back to Florida. I had to drive about 2 hours to get home in Virginia. After a day or two of rest, I had to repair my computer, the oven, and other maintenance issues at home. Then back to work! Who likes that? It was shortly after that when Thanksgiving arrived. We did a lot of cooking for our family. It wasn't too long before I had the Quantum cruise in December and then Christmas rolled around. Time just flew by so much that I didn't have time to get back on Cruisecritic to post my photos. And I forgot to mention that it took about two weeks to get our photo package straight from the Oasis TA. We bought the "all prints and photos" package for two cabins. The disks were damaged and had to be replaced. I found out that they had to wait for the Oasis to come back to Florida in order to reprint my CDs and mail them to me. After finally getting them, I still found out that we were missing over 100 prints that we really paid for. I notified the photo company, but never got a reply. I guess since they got their money, they really didn't care that I didn't get everything that I paid for. Needless to say, I have been quite busy. I am planning on getting more pictures from the rest of the days posted soon.

We finished them all!
davelliott Posted January 19, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Escargots In case you hadn't noticed, there is an order of Escargots every night. That was mine. I enjoyed them so much that my waiter knew that was one thing that I wanted without having to ask! Melon Prosciutto The melon was very sweet and delicious. The saltiness of the prosciutto was balanced well by the sweetness of the melon. Mozzarella Salad My sister liked the mozzarella salad. Royal Shrimp Cocktail My aunt said the shrimp cocktail was also good and fresh. I forgot to add the comments on the previous days, so I'll try to remember what we thought of each from now on. davelliott Posted January 19, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Royal Sirloin The baked potato was very hot and fresh. The sirloin was about the same as they always are when I get them. I ordered it medium well and it was a bit over that. It was hot and juicy, but a bit tough to chew. I didn't really care for the sauce. Herb Crusted Crispy Calamari My aunt had this item. She said that she enjoyed it. However, she was unable to eat it all. There was just too much of it! Coq au Vin My sister had this dish. I can't remember her comments, so it must have been ok. If she hadn't liked it or had really enjoyed it, I might have remember more about it. Vegetable Paella My BIL had this one. I think that he said that it was good. LuCruise Posted January 19, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Thanks for posting. Looks yummy. Do you feel that the specialty restaurants were worth it? And if so, which was your favorite?
davelliott Posted January 19, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Creme Brulee I really like Creme Brulee, so on many nights when there was nothing else that I was really interested in, I would order one of these. On some nights, they were really good and on others, not so much. One time, the pudding part was so cold and lumpy. Another night, there was too much sugar on top and really had to be chiseled off! One night there was so much banana in the cream, that it tasted like a bowl of hot mushed bananas and nothing else! Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle or Trifle Tart I can't remember the comments on this one. Warm Low Fat French Apple Tart I think that this was liked! Sugar Free Chocolate Panna Cotta I think this was from the night that the first one came to the table frozen solid. My sister couldn't even break the top with the knife! The head waiter stopped by and asked why she wasn't eating. She showed her that it was frozen and the head waiter immediately took it to the kitchen and returned with another one. My sister ate it, but said that it was a bit mild in taste.
UNV-IT!!! Posted January 19, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Turn the flash off next time.
davelliott Posted January 20, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I tried taking some photos without my flash, but they either came out blurry or had an odd hue of orange to the photos. My cheap camera didn't appear to do well without the flash. I think the few that I have already posted (that were not in focus) were the ones that I took without the flash. I remember experimenting with the flash throughout the cruise and didn't have much luck in low light conditions like the dining room and theater. For LuCruise, the Chops was a gift from my travel agent. I have enjoyed Chops on Freedom, Enchantment, Oasis, and since then on the Quantum - all compliments of my TA. I liked the food on the Freedom the best. The atmosphere on the Oasis was the worst. We were seated in the back corner behind a large table of crew members. They were very talkative. The room was so dark that it was hard to read the menus. We were next to one of the windows to Central Park, but it was getting late and not much light came it. It was also very warm when we ate there. Even though the food was good, I don't think that I would pay for it. This is mainly due to how much I really enjoy the food in the MDR. The only exception would be the Quantum. I didn't find much in the four included restaurants that I liked. I didn't want to eat twice in any of them. So on the Quantum, I would consider paying extra to get the food in Chops. I guess their marketing ploy is working on me!
davelliott Posted January 21, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted January 21, 2015 This was good, but slightly overcooked. Soy Meatballs I think my sister liked these. She said that she was surprised by the taste. She was expecting less considering they were soy. Slow Roasted Prime Rib I believe that my aunt said that she really enjoyed this. It was very tender. davelliott Posted January 30, 2015 Author #24 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Pork Scaloppine Oscar - I think - not sure if this is it Low Fat Panna Cotta Strawberry Kiwi Pavlova I have always liked this because it is light and mild flavored. Warm Chocolate Cake I am allergic to chocolate, so I don't know how this was. I think either my sister or aunt had this. I don't recall their exact comments. Sugar Free Chocolate Coconut Terrine This looked light and fluffy. Not sure of the taste, though.
