Ken at the beach Posted March 15, 2015 #551 Share Posted March 15, 2015 I am wondering the same thing about how do you know how much USD you bought. From what I gathered from this thread, when you cash out at the end they give it back to you in USD cash Lots of reports back from people stating that they had no problems. You will have your 350 US and lots of reports of people getting it refunded in US$ the last night.
Lisa8 Posted March 15, 2015 #552 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Thank you Oursusualbeach How about how much credit you buy, does it indicate the amount in USD or the amount you paid for it in CAD?
Ken at the beach Posted March 15, 2015 #553 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Thank you Oursusualbeach How about how much credit you buy, does it indicate the amount in USD or the amount you paid for it in CAD? It only indicates the amount in CDN but agin there have been a lot of people who have bought this and no one has reported any issues. I have bought $1000 and we sail on Monday. Omishjoe Posted March 15, 2015 #555 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Thanks for the tips about OBC folks. Called today and got $500us for each of our three upcoming cruises. I also remember doing this for my first cruise on Voyager back in '02 when our dollar was even lower than it is now. If memory serves me correct I think the exchange was 20% which was still a good deal considering our dollar was in the low 60's at the time. Ken at the beach Posted March 15, 2015 #556 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Did you actually have to call in several times to get the 1000? Twice. $500 each time. It will depend on who you talk to. Some seem to be enforcing a $499 limit while others are not.
Lisa8 Posted March 15, 2015 #557 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Is there a limit to how much you can apply? Can you do over 1k if you call in multiple times?
leyla Posted March 15, 2015 #558 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Is there a limit to how much you can apply? Can you do over 1k if you call in multiple times? The answer is yes. A few weeks ago I purchased 605 for 550 Cnd and this week purchased $1100. No problem at all. Was not asked for any faxing of credit card. With the left over money I plan on exchanging US into Euros once we arrive in Barcelona. US yesterday was showing 4 or 5 cents to the Euro, so almost at par soon. Rare JessyCruises Posted March 16, 2015 #559 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Just got off the Freedom. We had a $300 OBC from MyVegas and had bought a $450 one at the 10%. We ended up not using most of it. Guest services gave us cash for the $450. They other credit was non refundable so I got the balance at the casino. My account was set up as cash do I did not have to pay the 10%

goodml Posted March 16, 2015 #562 Share Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Yes that is what I meant. And it should have been 5% not 10 as I mentioned Wow that's awesome. On another note my son and seven of his fellow med students (age 25-30) left on Freedom yesterday. I had him call down a couple of weeks ago and he and his girlfriend each bought $500 on board credit and prepaid their grats. This week the rest of the group were freaking out about how much the drink pkgs had gone up so the other six called down on Friday morning (about 54 hours before sailing) and were each able to buy $500 onboard credit. They were told the cut off time was 48 hours before sailing. Just FYI. Edited March 16, 2015 by goodml
Mar56 Posted March 16, 2015 #563 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Well, I finally called to buy OBC for our trip next January, and found out that I CAN'T get the OBC at the fabulous rate other Canadians are. Reason? Because I booked in U.S. dollars. Sigh. We are already going to be paying more because of that, and our horrible exchange rate, but we did it in order to get the Cancel for any reason insurance through RCL. We can't get regular cancel for any reason insurance due to restrictions imposed for certain situations, whereas the RC insurance is NOT restrictive in the same way, other than to require that we book in U.S. dollars. Ah well, at least we tried. Maybe our exchange rate will improve by next January - yeah right.

RCCL does not impose a cancellation fee outside of 75 days. Your travel agent may impose a penalty, though. Also, my TA refunds the insurance if outside the 75 days, so I believe that is industry practice. Check it out.

Jacquelyn, if I book in Canadian dollars I can't buy the Royal Caribbean cancel for any reason insurance - I can only get that if I book in US dollars. So, since I need that, because of our family situation, I'm stuck. Ah well. I'm glad that it's working for everyone else though.:)
dodgeenterprises Posted March 19, 2015 #567 Share Posted March 19, 2015 I just was just on Royal's website checking cabin prices for next Feb, when I noticed the price was up approximately $1000 Cdn from yesterday. I went to the Royal USA site and the price was the same as it was yesterday. It appears that Royal has adjusted for the Cdn $. Instead of a 10% exchange it is now approximately 26%. I have't called to see if the OBC rate has changed yet, but I suspect it probably has.

mjforfunca Posted March 19, 2015 #569 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Just bought US$499 for CDN$548.90 at 1.1 for our August cruise, the agent went by the book, if I want $500 and over I need to fax my photo ID, but she said I could call back tomorrow to add another $499. Thanks OP.

Haber Posted March 21, 2015 #571 Share Posted March 21, 2015 Got our US cash back tonight. Only problem with this method is I had to tell my husband no more drinking after that since we'd cashed out our cash only account. Plus having to line up at guest services. They were crazy on the Enchantment yesterday. Over 1000 kids 18-25 years old on our sailing and a lot of them with cash accounts.
MaddyandMax Posted March 21, 2015 #573 Share Posted March 21, 2015 Does anyone know whay the exchange rate would be if I went to the pursers desk the first day with Canadian money? Would they charge the 1:1?
hancogran Posted March 21, 2015 #574 Share Posted March 21, 2015 Does anyone know whay the exchange rate would be if I went to the pursers desk the first day with Canadian money? Would they charge the 1:1? I doubt you'd get the 10% rate. I'm sure they'd use whatever the current Bank of America exchange rate is. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqType=faq&faqSubjectId=472&faqSubjectName=Foreign+Currency&faqId=5790 Hope the links works.. it's from RCI frequently asked questions. You could always call RCI and ask them but I'm guessing it would be in the 30% range. :(
Host Jacquelyn Posted March 22, 2015 #575 Share Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) I don't think the purser would exchange Canadian dollars to US dollars. Even if they did, it would be at current rates. Edited March 22, 2015 by Host Jacquelyn
