Crew interactions after auto tipping started

Let me pull this back on topic before we duplicate all the other tipping threads here.

Summary.....most feel there has been less meaningful interaction since auto-tips were introduced but most ascribe this to reduced crew manning instead of crew attitude.

The other theory is that since tips are on auto pilot they don't have to try and impress as much as they used to, and while they still work hard, they don't see increased customer schmoozing, on average, translate into higher tips.

The control group may be bar/casino/spa staff. Their tip structure hasn't changed. Have we seen less interaction from the those groups?

Actually, the control group being bar/casino/spa staff does not work.

You forgot to factor that bar staff has been significantly reduced along with dining and cabin staff.

And I bet those people think they are better than others because they follow the dress cod, and would never dream of hogging a chair or smuggling liquor *LOL*

Huh?

Because someone chooses to tip does not make them any better than any others. I'm sorry if my posts gave the impression I thought that. IF someone has a valid reason for not tipping, I wish they had addressed the issue while aboard so that hopefully they could get better service and then be fine with providing tips at the end of the cruise.

I'm not sure I understand the connection between tipping and dress cod(e), chair hogging or smuggling liquor.

You're not the only one.

Sail I am sorry for the confusion.

I didn't mean that at all about people who tip. And certainly no barbs at yourself.

We see how many times on these threads people equate how following the dress code equals class and manners and respect .

Just wondering how many people running out on the waitstaff the last night were dressed to the nines and would never hog a chair or smuggle liquor , but found it Ok to cut and run on the tip.

Certainly didn't mean to imply anything you stated

Thanks for explaining, Babyher.

I probably should have understood the first time. :o

Looking back at the way I wrote it , I could have been clearer. You know how the written word doesn't always match what you were trying to say. :)
Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I think the cards may be called "Let Us Know".

We have filled out the 'Let us know' cards to acknowledge service above and beyond during the cruise. We wanted to give that special crew member an 'Atta Boy' while the deed was still fresh in our minds.

We have also turned in a 'Let us know' card when we had a less than stellar performance while on a ship-sponsored shore excursion. Again, during the cruise while the experience was fresh.

Did anyone from Front Office ever contact your about either card?

Giving good comments about specific crew persons really makes a difference for them.
Negative comments, hopefully, have useful action taken to improve. :)

We turned in three or four complimentary cards during our recent Eurodam cruise. Never heard a word in return.

Thanks for your post.
Let's hope the crew person and their supervisor received the cards. :)
It was nice of you to take the time and effort on their behalf.
I can't pick em out. No one has said they remove their auto charges. How are you picking? Darts? Names in a hat?
Yes... I said these threads ( which means the thousands I've read on tipping, hotel service charge, gratuity, whatever they want to call it)

I have no special powers. I'm sure there's many other posters who can pick them out ( they just make it too easy)

With the negative comment we received a phone call from the shore excursion office letting us know that they had been in contact with the tour operator to express our concerns. We later received a letter from the tour operator letting us know that the had taken steps to correct the problem. We then received another follow-up from the shore excursion office to make sure the issue had been resolved to our satisfaction. Great customer service!

With the positive comment, the Neptune Lounge concierge gave us positive feedback that the crew member's supervisor had received the comment and passed it along to the crew member. We also made sure to give this particular crew member mention, by name, on our comment card.

Many times we have received small gifts from the Neptune Lounge concierges (chocolate covered strawberries, bottles of wine, etc.) that were totally unnecessary (but appreciated) when we left notes with them regarding small issues (like maybe a plumbing problem, or laundry issue).

It's these little things that keep us coming back to and recommending HAL.

I have never had HAL contact me about any comments I've made about any aspect of a cruise from the most positive rave to the one and only pretty negative comment. The only contact we've ever had with HAL post-cruise was years ago when HAL sent us an email off a link on our personal website when we had a HAL cruise report posted there and that was a very short and simple "Nice website." comment.
