tazaria Posted February 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2015 We're cruising to "Margaret River" (read: Busselton, "gateway to the Margaret River region" #tongueincheek) in April with the Pacific Jewel and I was wondering if anyone has some recommendations for shore excursions? Do we go with the standard options offered by P&O, or are there some better options available that I should be looking into if I book privately? Or do we not bother with Busselton and use it as another sea day? (Or just get off the ship and wander around by ourselves without organising anything more structured?) Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2015 If you do decide on a tour it would pay to book it as soon as possible. Do not leave it until you board as they will all be sold out. The smaller towns get swamped when a ship drops 2,000 odd passengers for just one day .You may not have any choice other than to wander around and soak up and enjoy the local atmosphere. I would love to visit Bussleton and the Margaret River area. When we did Around Australia , that was not a call. Will you be there for the Wild flowers? that would be stunning to see.:)

Busselton is renowned for its long jetty that has an underwater observatory at the end. That could be worth seeing. Each time we have been to Margaret River we have been under-whelmed. The place nearby that we have found most interesting is the limestone caves.:)

The caves are interesting - the shore ex's are very expensive though (IMO). No wild flowers at that time - doesn't start until around late June or thereabouts. For Margaret River - we will do a ships transfer and stroll around the town - again  A trip to a winery might be nice, if you like that sort of thing. Can't say much for Busselton, used to go camping down there many years ago, before they made it "posh" :and did away with all the "family - ocker type caravan parks" where lots of friends were made, and kids had a ball. :D (I do digress a lot ) Edited February 9, 2015 by dizzy1948
