Rare lupaglupa Posted February 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2015 We are US citizens cruising from Boston to Montreal this summer. I know we will go through US Customs when we return to the US. What I don't know is whether we will have to go through customs (Canadian or US) when we leave the ship in Montreal. I'm trying to plan our travel home and wanting to know if I need to allot time for this. Any help would be appreciated!
Rare LHT28 Posted February 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2015 I would allow extra time You will go through Canada Immigration probably at the 1st Canadian port (like we do in US ports) but you will need time disembarking for the officials Then you will clear US customs/Immigration at the airport before boarding your flight to the USA Others will probably give you more exact information

You will not need to go through customs at the Port of Montreal This will be done on ship at the first Canadian port you will enter. In my case it was Halifax. We got declaration cards to fill in our stateroom 1-2 nights before arriving in Halifax. Customs officials look at them on board, and then select passengers are called for an individual interview. Mind you, I am Canadian, so the procedure might be a bit different for American passengers.
Rare lupaglupa Posted February 13, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted February 13, 2015 Thanks for the info. We are heading home by train so we'll do it as we cross the border there. I've been back and forth between the US and Canada many times. It's always been an easy process.
