Site to check weather warnings cyclones etc

Recommended Posts

We are cruising to New Caledonia in a few days. (March 2nd) from Sydney.

I have looked on Google for weather forecast/warnings. With not much luck.

Each site says something different, I am wondering if anyone knows of a reliable site?

The low near the Qld coast will have blown out by March 2.

Can try the US Navy tracking site.

http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/TC.html

Bit hard to navigate and no idea what it all means, but try these buttons:

Left hand column. See Southern Hemisphere.

atm there are 4 storms listed below this. These are the storms being tracked by them that are in the southern hemisphere.

Click on 13P Thirteen. (this is TC Marcia).

Page for that system comes up. Click on map for enlargement.

The track looks similar to the BoM site. I have previously seen TC storms in northern hemisphere on this site where there are multiple tracking algorithms used (like 12-15 different trackings from all the various formulas that other countries use. Interesting). Guessing there is only BoM that does modelling for this area.

If the weather is still a tad rough, the ship will vary it's course and schedule as necessary to avoid any really nasty stuff. The TC called Marcia will be long gone by then.

. And have not been concerned until the cyclone that formed a few days ago off QLD

I use this site a lot.

Reasonable accuracy up to about 7 days out.

Select different regions, once displayed selecting an individual chart will expand the size.

As cporses says, too early for any assessment yet, plus your Capatin will steer clear of anything bad.

I tend not to worry about things I can't control.
