LrgPizza Posted February 24, 2015 #26 Share Posted February 24, 2015 We were charged tax on our slips for a couple of the drinks we purchased while still in port in Miami with UBP. At the end of the day when the drink charge was zeroed out, the tax was also zeroed out.
Jofishes Posted February 24, 2015 #27 Share Posted February 24, 2015 It's at 10% Total tax for us on the Spirit canaries in Jan was around $10. (was not going to argue over that so paid it) Taxed on drinks in BCN and Malaga upto about a couple of hours after sailaway. if eating early ask the server to scan the drinks at the end of the meal they may miss the cutoff. ahh so would this be correct ? we will be charged tax on the UBP drinks we consume until we have sailed away from bareclona and then there will be no tax until we come to Malaga ? (other places we visit are Morocco, Gran Canaria, Tenerife & Madeira on this cruise)
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 24, 2015 #28 Share Posted February 24, 2015 Malaga and Barcelona are the ports on that cruise where we were charged tax on our purchases (we didn't have the UBP), so I assume that it would just be those ports. triptolemus Posted February 24, 2015 #29 Share Posted February 24, 2015 It's NOT free. It's zeroed off. . Give me a moment while I try to reconcile your statement...
Guindalf Posted February 24, 2015 #30 Share Posted February 24, 2015 Give me a moment while I try to reconcile your statement... It's all in the accounting. If you look at a restaurant bill if you have the UDP, you'll see that the charge is zero. The UBP bill shows a total and it's just not charged to your account. The end result is the same but the process is different from NCL's end.
Rare insidecabin Posted February 24, 2015 #31 Share Posted February 24, 2015 It's NOT free. It's zeroed off. Therefore tax is charged where applicable. That is the way NCL have chosen to implement it for the beverage package They don't implement other included VAT able items in that way. Might even be in contravention of VAT regulations. Eytbol8 Posted February 25, 2015 #32 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Another quick question...does every drink you get with the package get listed on your folio with no charge or is completely taken care of behind the sceens?
GEORGET Posted February 25, 2015 #33 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Another quick question...does every drink you get with the package get listed on your folio with no charge or is completely taken care of behind the sceens? On the Spirit the drinks did not appear on your final statement, only the VAT charged on drinks while in a Spainish port. the UDP was listed please note that the Drink slip you sign shows the full cost of the drink charge and is not zero, this is done later. this is why VAT can be added. Vat on the Canary cruise in Barcelona and Malaga was 10%, bill shows VODKA $7.50 AUTO GRATS $1.13 VAT 10% $0,75 TOTAL 9.38. You sign this but only the Vat charged is on your statement. Be warned though this 10% can be added to your bill on all drinks if the ship does not leave EU waters. hope it helps j

I was curious if my brother's (who is a bit of a heavy drinker) folio would be pages and pages and pages long - haha :p.
