Small Hand Held Steamer Question

Recommended Posts

The issue as explained to me was that the steam can activate the smoke/fire detectors in the stateroom.

Well, steam is water vapor so don't see how that is even possible...

Though the explanations about internal hot plates and forgetful people is far more realistic and believable.

Since smoke detectors are optical, and trigger on dispersal of the light beam, steam is very capable of setting one off, it happens all the time in an engine room. This is especially true of non-superheated steam, like you would get from a steamer, which is visible. Superheated steam is invisible.

Learn something new everyday! That's interesting fact.

I guess my little travel steamer is heading for the "eventual garage sale" pile

We have cruised for over 17 years and took a steamer each time and never had any issues until 2 years ago. They said no steamers, we had to go to the naughty room to fetch our luggage as that is where we had packed it. Never again, naughty room is not fun.
