Does anyone know if you can drop the autotip business and just tip each night you use the MDR?

 

We prefer to tip in person rather than rely on P&O 'giving' my tips to staff for me... especially having seen this post

I know this applies on Celebrity but never heard of it on P&O.

You can remove them on P&O irrelevant if dining choice.

If you read the other tipping thread you will note several posters state that any cash tips to staff by passengers removing their auto tip must be handed over to P&O and placed in the pool with the auto tips. Apparently the only way to guarantee your money stays with the intended staff is to leave the auto tip in place and tip a little extra to those you think deserve more.

The autotip element for the restaurant staff will presumably be approximately £2.50 pppd from May, so to give the equivalent for two people is a convenient note. But what does one do to vary it (either way), start messing around with change? What a pain that would be. What if neither waiter nor assistant was available at the end of the meal? For us, I think it's a non-starter and autotips will stay on.

 

I realise this doesn't apply to everyone, but isn't it also effectively cheaper to give the same amount via autotips than cash, assuming you have some cabin credit and are a member of the Peninsular Club? Cabin credit gets used up without Peninsular discount, so to use it for autotips (which wouldn't attract the discount anyway) is efficient and you will start to gain the Peninsular benefit on the qualifying spend in excess of your cabin credit that much 'earlier'.
