That doesn't make any sense. On "The Fun Shops" portion of the website, it clearly states:

 

Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

It is my understanding you get a refund on unused cash,

Carnival gift cards and refundable OBC at the end of your cruisr, but that cruise cash is not refundable.

 

Perhaps they apply cruise cash first as they do non-refundable OBC.

 

Can someone verify that?

I just got off the phone with my PVP. Non-refundables are applied first.

So it is possible that the posters in posts #2 and #3 also had cash, gift cards or other OBC applied to their cabin that was refunded by check.

According to my PVP, that is the only way they were able to get a refund.

No. Unfortunately, you would be SOL :(

You can always go to the casino and use the slot machine. Add the amount you have left to the machine then cash out and go to the casino window and get the cash.

I was very surprised to get a refund. We had prepaid tips and cruise cash and a credit card for any overages. I was sure we had spent it all, but more $ was in there somewhere. We used the casino advice to use up the remaining balance. It's a refund mystery.

We did not have any cruise cash but had lots of OBC. We just went to GS the last night and said we wanted to close our account and get our excess cash.

If that had not worked, I would have gone to the casino to cash it out to the machine.

I've always experienced exactly that. They seem to "use up" the non refundable balance first, and then go to the refundable cash. I've found that you can go to Guest Services, or one of the kiosk locations, and cash out the evening before debarkation. No problem.

I think people are mistaking cash left on their S & S card with Cruise Cash. If you have any cruise cash left then NO you will not receive a check. It is Use it, or lose it.

 

Lets say you put $500 on S & S card with Cruise Cash...NOT CASH OR CREDIT CARD. You only use $400. The $100 left is not refundable, you will NOT receive a check for it.

 

You can go to the casino and cash out supposedly to get the $100. I have never done it but have read up on it.
