drink price changes

I have no idea how much all drinks have gone up. What I can provide is that I'm fresh off the Liberty and used the Cheers package. It can be used on a huge variety of drinks. We used it to get bottles of beer, Bloody Mary's, the drink of the day, martinis from the Alchemy bar, margaritas, shots of Midori, glasses of wine. If the drink costs less than $10, it is included.

I'm on a cruise in 2016.. We plan on getting the cheers program. Are there certain drinks that arent covered in this program? We drink margaritas..I don't like beer or wine, so mixed cocktails are all I drink. When I read about the Cheers program all I saw was a limit on the # you were allowed in a 24 hr period.

Yes, at least in Nov of 2014 Margaritas were covered under the Cheers program. They have other specialty drinks that are covered under the plan too, maybe about 6 or 7 of them. The regular cocktails are lame in that they are only 1 shot, but the specialty ones have more. Don't waste the plan on a basic screwdriver for example.

The Long Island Ice Teas were also a staple of mine along with the Margaritas. Also included in the Cheers plan. Not sure if they still do this, but in Nov last year they had Bloody Marys from 8AM through noon, and the great thing is that during that time frame they were double shots. Good deal whether you have the Cheers plan or not.

One more thing. A dude I met on that cruise told me that if you meet the 15 drink limit, they won't even sell you anymore during that 24 hours time frame. And from what I remember the 24 hours time frame goes from 6AM through 6AM the next day. Check just to make sure.

They have recently raised drink prices on RCCL as well and from what I read, on NCL.

I can confirm that they raised the prices on RCCL significantly in the past couple of months. Most frozen cocktails that cost around $7-8 on Carnival are $12-14 on RCCL. Plus, RCCL raised the automatic bar gratuity to 18%.

I have no problem with the raising of drink prices- as long as the "up to" price limit is increased within the Cheers Package. When prices are raised to intentionally "knock" a once covered drink out of the package limit, people get angry- as the should.

Agree completely.

When you figure the total cost of Cheers for the 2 people over 21 in the same cabin it's over $120/day ( approx including tip) x 6 full days of cruising ( I left out the first day ) that's $720 in booze charges. Only SERIOUS drinkers need apply and remember IF you like some premium liquors the drinks are over the $10 limit ( so figure $10.95 ) you'll be paying IN ADDITION to your cheers package 80% of the $10.95 =$8.76 + 15% Tip($1.31) or $10.07.

Now factor in days when you're onshore and you'll most likely never break even or come close to that $120/day. I'll just pay per drink for those specialty drinks & wine I really want and bring on my own illegal bottle of Captain Morgan to go with my coke I being on at no charge.

i also love margaritas! they have an ultimate margarita which is one of their classic cocktails is still $8.75 and is good. it is a double shot of tequila. but this has changed recently also. it was always jose quevo 1800 resposado tequila. now the tequila used is el jimador. the bar menu's on the pride actually have the change written on them. it is a inferior tequila compared to 1800 but the drink is still good. they have a really good margarita at the blue iquana called the blues patron margarita for $10.95 which has a double shot of patron and patron citronge and fresh squeezed lime juice. but of course it is over the cheers mark.

I thought I was on the RCL board for a min when I saw the thread title. :) People are humming over there re: RCL's change to make a lot (most) drinks a min of $12. Beers are still <$10...but this thread in the RCL forum (which is now 11+ pages long) I think has embedded in it a post with pic of a receipt from the bar from a couple who got on the Oasis or Allure, proceeded to the pool deck to get two simple frozen drinks out of a machine and paid close to $27. Yikes!!! Simple highway robbery. I'd like to see the smuggle haters over there now pounce on folks who speak of smuggling booze. :D

I agree with Splintz...love margaritas and was bummed to see they replaced the 1800 in the Ultimate Rita. Was even more bummed to find they stopped doing the $5 match play in the casino for the Ultimate Rita and other premium drinks. :( But they are not $12!!!!!

I can confirm the drink price increases on the Allure. The jacked them way up and then took away all of the bar menus. You have no idea how much things cost now. I think they're trying to push their drink packages vs. pay as you go.

We just did a NCL cruise and the one thing I liked about there drink package is you only paid the difference between the drink limit and the cost of the drink.

So if a drink was $10.50 you would only pay the $.50 difference.

There drink price limit was higher but you get the point.

If carnival would do this i think they would sell more cheer packages

huh! i am confused by your reply. i stated the ultimate margarita is still priced at $8.75. then i was talking about the blues patron margarita that is available at the red frog pub that is $10.95!

but i am also bummed about the match play. at least on my last cruise i had a bunch and would use over 10 a night playing. definitely makes a difference when you are playing.

Those prices are cheap, go take a look on RC board and see all the people that are upset that the drink prices are $14 for mixed drinks and a glass of wine. I won't be doing much drink on that cruise next week

As long as people continue to purchase the Cheers Program Carnival will continue to raise the prices. There in lies the issue. We all get caught up in the raised prices no matter what.

I no way drink enough to buy Cheers so my drink prices just go higher and higher. How long before Carnival raises the price of Cheers?

I don't need 2 shots of tequila and I'm not even a top shelf tequila girl..just want a frozen, fruit flavored margarita under $ 10.00 so I can get the Cheers program!

That won't be a problem! Only the TOP top shelf drinks are off the program. :D

Just back from a West Coast cruise ( 7 day out of Long Beach )our biggest gripe was the drink menus do not even list liquor or their prices anymore. Went almost a year ago ( West Coast )and menus list all liquors with prices.:confused::confused:

Funny... I don't remember the last time I saw a thread about how the price of Bread, Milk, Eggs, Oil, Gas, Beets, Corn, Salsa, Beef, Chicken, Pork, whatever... went up... But as soon as Carnival raises their prices, it's a national tragedy about them gouging us....

Alcohol is optional... wait until you get home and get yourself blitzed for 10% of the cost.. If you must get drunk.

Those food staple prices might go up, but they are pretty reasonable. Alcohol prices on a cruise are starting to leave the realm of reasonable, so people are voicing concern. Some people also can't get drunk at home (work obligations, etc.) so vacation is their one chance to cut loose.

Update: I am on the pride: Hess select is $10.25 - kettle one and grey goose $7.95 w/ water as per our bartender Oleg at ea sports bar. 9.95 last year for three kettle, I don't think it went down. Not on this menu. Will update .... Have a good week

So, if Grey Goose or Kettle One is 7.95 - what do you think a Grey Goose and Tonic would be? If Grey Goose mixed drinks are more than $10 and exempt from Cheers - there is no point in purchasing Cheers for me.

Maybe, I could order the Grey Goose straight up and a glass of tonic. I don't need the drink to be overly strong, but I don't much care for other vodkas. I think I would rather buy a bottle of Grey Goose for $115 ( highway robbery) for my cabin and buy the bubbles package.

Is it that difficult to bring a bottle of your own spirits aboard? I did it once and although they (Celebrity) stole other stuff from my luggage, they did not touch the bottle of rum that I had in there.

Shot of Grey Goose straight up (over ice) Probably $7.95. Add a glass of tonic. $2.50-3. $9.75-$10.50. Call that a wash versus GG and tonic. Because the Bartender will probably give a little more than a shot in the GG and tonic compared to GG And a Tonic.

We have actually done this a time or two - with no problem. But, I have heard Port Canaveral is not as liberal in their searches. Also, my husband was not a fan of running back to the cabin to get a drink.
