we were thinking of using the bus shuttle from Hartford CT to the NCL port.

Has anyone used the bus shuttles to NY from Hartford , New Haven ect......and how it did it turn out? did you get to the port at a good time to board? Was luggage handled OK?

Pleas advise?

We have only taken the one from Ft Lauderdale to Miami....Im sooooo glad we had that option, our flight from Dallas to Miami got canceled and we had to scramble to get one the next day out of Austin to Ft Lauderdale....well, we didn't have transportation lined up from Ft Lauderdale, so when we got there last min., I was sooooo relieved to see the kiosk for NCL still have one last bus...if you can make the bus, the ship wont leave without you...we got onboard just in time for muster...talk about stressed out, but the bus was great and had no problem with our luggage. It may be a little more, but the peace of mind is worth it :)

There is a thread about this same bus service back in September where they sailed without 50+ passengers because the bus didn't get there in time (traffic).

That was a one time occurrence due to a massive demonstration in NY City that caused traffic nightmares beyond anyone's expectation.

I'll bet there are thousands of passengers every year who miss their cruise departures due to flight cancellations and delays caused by anything from mechanical problems to weather.

If you drive to the port your car could break down causing you to miss your cruise.

There's risk associated with any type of travel to the port on the same day you're cruising.

We took the bus from MA to NYC last fall. It was supposed to be a brand new bus. Well, after we got an hour out the bus had big problems and we had to stop and wait almost 2 hours for another bus to pick us up. We did get to the ship on time an were none the worse for wear. Now, coming home was the big problem. We had to wait for at least 3 hours outside in the cold for the bus to come and take us home. We were in NYC near the river and freezing after being in the Caribbean. We got home safe, no breakdowns this time. Would I do it again? NO!!!

Took the one from Hartford, CT to NYC years ago... Due to a big snowstorm that began about an hour after we left Hartford, we were delayed getting into NYC... Our 1 PM arrival turned into 3:30 PM but all in all it worked out fine. It was nice not to have to think about the travel part from Hartford to New York.

We also took the bus from Hartford to NYC.. the bus ride was fine.. we did hit traffic when getting to the port , it was too busy.. so we had to drive around and wait and hour before going back to the port. At the end of the trip.. we got right off the ship and the bus was right there.. You may also want to think of taking a train into NYC .. we did that once too. and no problems..

We took the Academy bus to the port and back 2 weeks ago, from Braintree MA. We picked up people in Springfield and Hartford. We had no problems...arrived at the port at approx. 1230,and were picked up at 1PM after the cruise. We enjoyed the ride and the driver was reliable and polite.

He did tell us about the trip last fall, where the folks missed the ship.Apparently, there was a huge protest of some sort in NYC and there was gridlock of traffic. He said the driver involved was distraught about the situation, but that there was nothing that could have prevented it. It's the only time it's happened with this company, according to our driver. We plan to use them again when we cruise.
