felihomies Posted June 4, 2015 #29 Share Posted June 4, 2015 As someone who lives in Alaska I think that it is important to visit a major glacier, but the ones in Glacier Bay are actually in retreat. When aerial photography of Glacier Bay taken in the 1940s is compared to current photos the change is truly astounding. Since the Solstice has been deployed in Alaska for several summers if the OP checks the review section of Cruise Critic, looking for summer reviews of the Solstice, there should be a number available. One difference between the Solstice and the other cruise lines the OP mentions is the Celebrity smoking policy. Celebrity restricts smoking to limited outdoor areas. Smoking is prohibited on stateroom balconies. There are no interior smoking areas, and even the casino is non-smoking. Hi, Northern Aurora. I will be on the 17 july Alaska cruise on Solstice (and Canadian rockies tour after that). Do you mind sharing about the weather? I live in Indonesia (or more famous for it's Bali) and wondering what kind of jacket should i bring because there's 60+ years old parents and 8 years old child in my family. i had prepare down jacket for my parents because i'm thinking Alaska = snow = cold. FYI, the weather in indonesia is around 30-37 celcius now. Thank you for your kindness. felicia
bothluv2cruise Posted June 4, 2015 #30 Share Posted June 4, 2015 We were on the Solstice to Alaska just last week (May 22nd sailing) and did not feel we "missed out" on anything like some posters have commented due to the Seattle to Seattle itinerary. The Captain got us very close to Tracy Arm and we also booked the small boat excursion which was icing on the cake! The views were breathtaking and I felt all stops except for Victoria gave us enough time in port. I do recommend adding a land tour - we didn't as I hadn't found CC when I originally booked the cruise however we loved Alaska so much we plan to return and will definitely do both!
