BEWARE: Noise Alert for Cabins on Deck 6

The two best tips I ever learned from these boards....book early and book a room between 2 other decks of rooms only! Both cruises we were deck 7 mid-aft and both were nice and peaceful! Needless to say...our next cruise is booked on Deck 7 also!

After all the posts about the noise on Upper deck, I called Carnival and upgraded to an 8B balcony across from a 4D interior. Cost me $600 more, but: 1) the balcony will be really nice and 2) it should be quieter. It is worth the extra money to have the peace of mind that I won't be hearing "cha ching" from the slot machines all night. Now all I have to do is break the news to my DH! :D

I believe Carnval must "know" about Deck 6. When I booked a cat 4a on Riviera deck for me and my DH ,with my parents next door(military rate for my parents), my TA said that Carnival automatically bumped my cabin up to deck 6. I told her no thanks, we want to stay together on Riviera deck, Now i'm really glad I made that decision.

Hi there, if you are in this cabin - MOVE - we just returned from it and i am here to tell you there is something wrong with this cabin - i have cruised 10 other times and have never had a problem. You can hear everything - talking in the hall, talking in the other rooms - noise from the walls - vacuuming in the hall - there was not 1 night on a 12 night cruise that we had uninterupted sleep - it put a real damper on our cruise. It is not just this cabin - there are other cabins on this ship as we heard other people complaining. any questions i will be happy to answer them!

We were on Deck 6 Room 6230 last March. No noise at all, just one night the phone ringing continuously in the next cabin. The lady and I on each side of this cabin came out at the exact time. She banged on the door and told the "teens?" in this room to make it stop. It did, and we never heard anything below or above us all week. We also loved the location of Deck 6 and we were midship!!!

We just returned a few weeks ago from the Conquest and we were in room 2369 it was an oceanview room and every night or shall I say early morning around 5am I would awaken to a screaching noise and I neved could figure out what it was. This was my first cruise and it really freaked me out because it sounded like the boat was scraping up against something but I never complained about it,,, just wondering if anyone else has ever heard this noise? (my hubby says it was just me being over nervous on my first cruise , but he could sleep through anexplosion so he never heard the noise)

we found this on our first cruise, those overzealous cleaning buggers were washing the windows at 6am. Now, not being a morning person, and honestly not being nice.... I called up the prusers desk and let them have it and demanded it to stop. I was (well I can be a bit excitable) crazy enough to dress and head up to the two levels above us and yep.... crazy cruisers syndrome... scream at the maintenence crew to cut the s$it out.

so please I'm not suggesting making an arse out of yourself like me, but know that a call the the pursers will work.... they asked if I was the angry lady that called "the desk" and let me know very politey they were sorry and had stopped when it was radio'd to them:o

sometimes a simple call of complaint does work.... if you give them a few minutes:rolleyes:

I learned to be a bit more patient and turn over in the bed instead! especially since the day before I complained to the hubby that the windows ...... were filthy! UGH!

Just one more statement... upon reading these pages, I think that once we've had a few cruises behind us, we REALLY forget what it's like to be a first timer.

our first cruise, I had no idea... we just booked through a coworker/agent, expected her to give us all the info we needed... showed up overpacked at the ship with no idea as to the room, ship layout, where to eat... let alone that you could research the excursions and consider doing it yourself:eek:

we simply paid, packed and showed up.... obviously had a fabulous time and became addicted.

so please remember that the newbies simply lack the wisdom of research that we do.. and I learn more each cruise.

so replies with.... well you should have researched a bit..... really don't help post cruise, when the OP obviously sought us out in attempts to help prevent others from the same mistake. Perhaps we could simply supply links to search this....

this would make a great new forum.... cruise ship links/port cam links/ deck plan links/ weather links, shopping links.... do it on your own links.....

lets play nice, we were all there once and I'd bet that we've all had blunders to share just like the OP.

planktonic1- with inconsiderate cruisers like me, you will smell smoke in the hallway as I've taken to smoking in the room. used to scare the hell out of me... but I'm extremely cautious. we do tend to open the door to eliminate the smoke smell.... and guess what.. it does enter the hallway. I admit the error of my ways, but want you to be informed that smoking IS allowed in the cabins and there are buts like me who do and it does spread to the hallway...everything in the room decks is enclosed and yep the smell carries... not so far from the casino though as the space arround is large and it disperses. the non smoking area is directly across it if this helps.

For all of you who have experienced these cabins above the casino...

have you noticed any greater problem with smoke? The assumption would be, NO, but the thought entered my mind, so I thought I would ask.

Looks like I am either right above the casino or right above the tuxedo shop (or somewhere in between), depending on how the deck maps "stack up" :) . So it should be somewhere between extremely quiet and extremely noisy:D .

I can certainly understand your question about smoke. I was concerned about one of our cabins on a Spirit class ship, because we were directly over the Cigar area. And any time you are over an area that is going to have a real concentration of smoke (especially cigars), it is an understandable concern if you sensitive to it. I am happy to report that those odors did not travel "up" and everything was fine.

When we were on the Conquest, an older gentleman and his wife had the room directly above the piano bar and it was not pretty. Seems Bill (from Austin) the piano player loved beating the piano lid against the piano through out his performance. And once Bill found out it really upset that couple, he did it even more.

It is a shame at that cruise lines don't take a little extra time and think about who they are placing in those cabins. We would have been fine because we closed down the piano bar every night. Sadly, it is buyer beware!!

So you are wise to take the time and do the research ...this is one of the reasons I don't do guarantees. I like picking my own room.

Just my adding my two cents!!! the above rooms on the Destiny definitely heard the band underneath.(Criterion Lounge)

6344 was the extended balcony. and 6335 was inside. They were "rockin and rollin" to the wee hours.

Sue do you have any idea about room 6348 on the Destiny. Thank You

I would not call you a "but". However, I do have to wonder if you smoke in your cabin, why do you open the door into the hallway? Do you really think anyone else wants to walk through a fog machine? True you are eliminating it from your cabin, but inflicting it on people who may have serious health affects from your actions. I was asking since you are the creating the "waste" shouldn't you be the only one that has to endure it. The hallways are not designated smoking areas. As such, passengers ought to expect them to be smoke free. Obviously the cabin itself does an excellent job of holding it in, since you have to open the door to allow it to "escape".

Personally, I think Carnival (and I can only speak about them because they are the only cruiseline I have cruised with) could have solved this problem years ago and could put a huge dent in it today (on every one of their ships) if they were willing to spend the money. It would not even require them to do any construction changes on any of their ships. No outside venting would be required. But the machines would cost money. And apparently we are not worth it yet...to them. Don't get me wrong, I love Carnival...but this is an area that they could improve, if they got the right motivation.

Because as you pointed out, not even smokers want to sit in a haze of waste.

I just had a brilliant idea.

Why not "suggest" (translation bug the cr@p out of Carnival) to retro fit the electric shaver outlets (that nobody uses) with a small air purifier in its place.

That way, if the cabin gets to much smoke haze in it, all you would have to do is open the bathroom door. And it could also eliminate those "unexpected" odors from both the ship (when its septic system gets out of whack) or us (when our systems get out of whack)!!!

I think it could really be a win win situation!!!

and so it begins...

who wants some popcorn? :d:d:d

Oh no...absolutely not!!! The most considerate folks I have ever met on board any of my cruises have been smokers. I have long championed a solution where smokers and non-smokers could co-exist, especially in the casino, the sports bar and the piano bar. We know the technology exists and I believe both sides would love to see it used!!

So everyone now knows why I "study" the deck plans and look at all the pics I can before deciding on a cabin. When going on the Golden Princess in '05, DW & I just wanted the cheapest balcony, until we saw that it was on the Promenade deck where, get this, people could walk right in front of your balcony. Absolutely no privacy so we went 4 or 5 decks up for $43.00 each.

I have a noise problem too....my DH snoring! LOL He drowns out any and all ship noise, but I solved the problem with a white noise machine and comfy head phones. I can't hear anything but the sound of wind in my ears.

I smoke occasionally in my cabin, but only in the bathroom with the door closed. Ok, it sounds crazy, but the vent in the bathroom takes care of the smoke...problem solved. :)

We were on the Glory last summer directly over the big theater where the shows are held. We hit the hay early one night and were awakened at 11:30 by loud music and what sounded like a bit party going on nextdoor or something. We finally figured out it was the late show. We could hear what the master of ceremonies was saying. Every other night we stayed up gambling so it didn't bother us but it was surprising that one night.

What time did the disco finally "settle down"? We are booked in 6335 on Glory. It is further to the front of he ship compared to where you were, but only by 7 cabins. I have heard this cabin is a good location, but now I am wondering.

We had this room on the Glory in August. You will love it. We never heard anything. Davehaj.

I wouldn't let this issue spoil your expectations of your cruise. I found that when we were on the Liberty Med cruise most people didn't stay up that late. I think we were all exhausted from the full days sightseeing and most of us had to be up early the next day to get going again.

Personally, I am one of the worst sleepers, every little noise wakes me.

I travelled with a bedside clock that had the option of playing "background" music such as Rain, waterfalls, oceon, summer night etc. We just left this playing and I bought ear plugs. Worked for me, we were never disturbed. Purchased the clock at Home Outfitters.

You'll have a most fabulous cruise, we booked to go back in 2007 and cruise the exact same places all over again :D

Has your husband been checked for sleep apnea? My husband literally sucked the paint color off the walls and it was so annoying. But worse, I noticed he would stop breathing when he slept. They did a sleep study and he stopped breathing 72 times an hour. That was more than one time a minute. What this does is deprive the body's organs of oxygen and can lead to premature death. Not all people who snore have sleep apnea...but I would recommend that anyone with aggressive snoring be checked. Especially if they are 60 pounds or more overweight. Hubby lost 40 pounds and it did not help, but weight loss does help some people. He has been on a CPAP machine every night.

You know, I had not even noticed there was a vent fan in the bathroom. I guess that "flushing sound" is so aggressive that it numbs the mind to all other sounds!LOL

If you are sensitive to noise (and even if you are not), it's good to notice what is above, below, and next to you. The Riviera deck is usually the quietest, except for some anchor noises (brief) at the front of the ship and (sometimes) some engine noises in the last few cabins aft.

But you never really know how quiet your cabin will be because you don't know if you will end up across the hall from a group that has a bunch of cabins and talks a lot in the hall, or drunks who careen home to their cabin just after you are nicely asleep.... so it is best to be prepared for noise with whatever works for you: earplugs, white noise machine, cognac, or whatever.

Make arrangements now to assure your sleep, and enjoy your cruise!

takes care of the stench of last nights dinner too

tip: bring a can of air freshner just incase your fan is busted. the entire cabin's about the size of my bathroom at home (ok maybe not but you get the picture)

Does anyone have any experience with the bottom deck of passenger cabins? Is there excessive engine noise or vibration or any other noise that should be considered when going for thee cheaper cabins?

Yes, a bad experience on the Liberty. I had an inside cabin, mid-ship on the Liberty. You know the sound of the toilet flushing? Well underneath us there must have been a bathroom because the flushing was LOUDER than the toilet in our bathroom! And also there was a terrible "klunk" at different hours of the day and night. I complained several times and it got slightly better. I wondered didn't anyone else have problems with these noises??
