No where, that I saw mentioned from the other posts, was the morning coffee and continental breakfast is still free room service offer, but it is, so all is good for moi!!!! emcelh Posted May 2, 2015 #27 Share Posted May 2, 2015 I see a domino effect coming on. I have a feeling that, just like airlines and the nickel and dime charges like pillow fees and baggage fees, and if you do a carry on and store in overhead fee, most, if not all the cruise lines will be following this room service charge fee with NCL and charge. I think NCL is the brain child and others will now follow suite. :( Luckily I am not married to the NCL brand and butterfly around to different cruise lines. I look at it as, I am on vacation, I know I order room service once a day, I had better add in my budget $60 (fee + tip) to cover room service for the week. I think that is what NCL is banking on. Am I thrilled, no, but again I currently have no dog in the fight. I have no upcoming NCL cruise. :) I do feel they are slowly pricing them self's out of my budget for taking, and enjoying a cruise, but time will tell. It's possible, although may not happen. A number of years ago, probably during the 90s, American Airlines announced a plan to simplify pricing. Instead of dozens of fares, all with different requirements and restrictions, there would only be a few. The CEO made the announcement on a webcast to the travel industry saying it would change the industry. He clearly expected other airlines to follow suit. They didn't, and it wasn't long before American had a fare structure just as complicated as it was before. I wonder if NCL is expecting other cruise lines to follow their lead and what they will do if it doesn't happen.
amarvel Posted May 2, 2015 #28 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) I'm wondering how the pizza will be handled for Haven suites? I was planning on buying a pizza on our glacier Day... so will that be free since I'm in the haven or am I going to have to pay $8 now for the pizza? swedish weave Posted May 2, 2015 #29 Share Posted May 2, 2015 I fully expect Carnival to use this as a way to gain business by following the example Southwest and Jet Blue set for the airlines. While NCL and Royal charge for various items, if Carnival management doesn't follow siut, they can use this to their advantage to lure cruisers to CCL. The only people it will attract are those that think about cost only. That is what changed the general atmosphere aboard NCL ships over the past few years. There is no gentle way of saying it but the lowest price tends to attract a lower quality of passenger.

You seem to be overlooking the fact that the Carnival family consists of all different types of cruise lines. It isn't polite to disparage those who choose to sail on one of the CCL ships. monkeybone Posted May 2, 2015 #33 Share Posted May 2, 2015 That's what we were looking at too - the Havana suites. It looks like a cool ship. I like those family cabins for people who have young kids they have a separate lounge. I'm looking forward to hearing more about it.

Casino Comp Chick Posted May 2, 2015 #35 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) Crazy but I just put a courtesy hold on a 3 night Anthem of the seas for next year, I haven't even looked at another cruise line since the early 90's until a week ago. I am not saying I am ready to abandon NCL/CAS because they have always been good to me and my family but I do plan on looking at other options if things continue as they have been. I still think of what a waste of money the Revel was when they insisted on no smoking, they could not recover even after back peddling on that, it was to late to attract the people that actually spend money in the casino. I go to AC all the time and had no interest in walking in the front door of that place because of it, I know others felt the same way and look at what happened to them. 2.4 billion to build, that was a very costly mistake if you ask me. shealea Posted May 2, 2015 #39 Share Posted May 2, 2015 The menu has many more good choices than the old one. But I still think $7.95 is too high for the service fee. Maybe 2.95 or 3.95, I think I would order. $7.95, no way!

Hi, I was looking at your NCL board to find out about the new price changes. Since the Escape will be debuting and Carnival has the Vista debuting later I thought I'd check out NCL. Strangest thing is as a Carnival cruise line fan I never realized that all of us who work in the Education field were low quality passengers. It is good to know that NCL doesn't have low quality people like myself on their ships. Oh, my goodness my friend at work did NCL this past March Break while I did Carnival I think I'd better let her know teachers are lower quality people. Now I am wondering just who is the lower quality person.

As a person who is considering sailing NCL in the future this menu helps me to understand why there is a new charge. I am not a fan of buffets so room service that includes hot foods is well worth the extra charge. On Carnival I always tip extra so 18% is reasonable. evertravel1 Posted May 3, 2015 #43 Share Posted May 3, 2015 I am very disappointed with NCL's decision to implement the room service charge. I have only cruised with them once before, and have since stuck with Royal and Princess. I thought that I would give it another try. I think that twice will be my NCL limit. sixesandeights Posted May 7, 2015 #45 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Yes we really are.....It's worth a try. I have read on the casino boards that the casino is good. The Carnival casino is MUCH better then NCL. 6&

Cruise a holic Posted May 7, 2015 #47 Share Posted May 7, 2015 I know there's been talk about the fee, but haven't seen a roll-out schedule. Here it is direct from NCL: Room Service • Room service will now have a $7.95 convenience charge • As Pizza is already part of the new Room Service menu, the Pizza 24/7 program will no longer be offered anywhere on the vessels • The roll out schedule will be as follows: o America – Saturday, May 2 o Breakaway – already implemented o Dawn - Friday, May 1 o Epic Sunday, May 3 o Gem – Saturday, May 2 o Getaway – already implemented o Jade – Saturday, May 2 o Jewel – Thursday, May 7 o Pearl – Saturday, May 2 o Sky – Friday, May 1 o Spirit – Thursday, May 7 o Star – Monday, May 11 o Sun – Friday, May 8 While we rarely ever use room service, does this fee apply to Haven suites also? We will be in a suite on our Breakaway sailing. Will be our first NCL cruise and this policy is nickle and dime. Thanks
ltjn Posted May 7, 2015 #48 Share Posted May 7, 2015 So everything is falling in-line now. Room service fee, no 24 hour pizza, just room service pizza and now not being able to removing food from restaurants and buffets to take back to stateroom. This makes sense to me now, not! Got to love FDR, he is making NCL a world class cruise line. He will show Kevin how to make a profit. Personally, I think Kevin's quick exit was all about the money increase promised by FDR at the expense of the customer.
doodlesinkentucky Posted May 7, 2015 #49 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Do folks in suites also have to pay for room service if they order items through their butler? We usually don't order meals but I know they do have a different room service menu in the suites. We are traveling with family next year and they may order from it. Just wondering.... BreeYark Posted May 7, 2015 #50 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Reading the fine print on the menu, my understanding is that if I order 2 full meals with a single 2$ water bottle, they don't charge me the 7,95$. Is that right?
