dress code on royal nights

Is there a dress code for anthem royal nights? Or just in the Royal restaurant?

 

We will be in silk that night, are we expected to suit up as well?

 

 

Or will I be turned away without a jacket?

Seems to be a bit of confusion over Royal Nights, mainly because RC haven't really announced what they are.

 

Best I can tell is its Dress Your Best. What that means will be different to different people.

The dress code for Royal Receptionis "Dress Your Best".

Grande is the formal restaurant. If you eat in another restaurant like Silk you do not need to dress formal for Royal Reception celebration in Royal Esplanade.

However, I have not seen any definition of "Dress Your Best"!

Our second night was a Royal Night with dress your best. In reality people wore whatever they wanted. Many did make an effort and wore tuxes/ gowns etc, but also I saw people in jeans and t shirts.

 

The only place it will be even vaguely enforced is Grande (I think we saw one person in Grande not wearing a jacket).

I'm not surprised since this concept wasn't communicated to anyone before the cruise, at least from what I've read. In fact I read somewhere (not sure here or on that other social media site) that Royal wasn't even admitting that there was such a thing as Royal Evenings. So how could people dress for it? I'm sure the people you saw dressed up were likely dining at Grande and everyone else was in smart casual or casual depending where they were eating as that was the dress code that was known for the other venues.

 

Besides what exactly is "dress your best" or "Royal Night". Were there that many people complaining about the lack of formal nights on Quantum that Royal has to come up with this to make them happy but still be able to say on Quantum class ships there isn't a formal night just a formal venue? Talk about confusing.

Actually we ate in chic on royal night, and saw several tuxes and long gowns in there. I assume they had brought them for the night they were due to eat in grande and wore them twice.

We are on Anthem in July for 14 nights, so not sure how many of these nights will be 'Royal Evenings'. Doesn't really bother me too much, I like the idea of Dynamic Dining (whatever the menu happens to be) as on land I would never eat in the same restaurant with the same table-mates for 14 consecutive nights. And if we don't end up liking much on the menu then there are plenty of other options to 'top-up'.

I phoned RC yesterday regarding this and was told that all restaurants would be formal dining on the Royal Nights.

I'll wear a tie that night and I think 'Dress your best' is the best idea!

That may be the point but there is NO enforcement. Only a few people not eating in Grande were in formal. To be fair, we didn't know about it until boarding, so people may not have brought formal wear.

 

However as RCI don't enforce dress code for actual formal nights I wouldn't expect it for Royal nights!

I think it's a bit late in the day now to be announcing a royal/formal/dress your best - call it what you will night............. and then deciding that there is to be dress code of any type (The Grande excepted) is a bit of a shock to me.

 

I thought all this ship wide clothing segregation nonsense had been done away with??

 

I like dressing up - but I wholeheartely defend the rights of those who don't.

I spent 12 nights on the Quantum last month.

 

Royal Reception, Dress your Best was a one night event.

It is not a shipwide, everybody does it thing. I only saw a few REALLY formal passengers for this night.

It was during this night that our Captain was in the Royal Esplanade for professional photos.

All restaurants had ther normal dress codes in place.

If it makes you uncomfortable walking through this area dressed down, you can easily avoid it by using another deck.

 

If you are looking for shipwide Everybody in Tuxes and Ballgowns dining, it won"t happen.

You are correct in that the offer of a formal experience is there.

 

The reality of our experience on Quantum is that very few people wanted to actually be formal.

This is just a mess. They are worried Dynamic Dining is loosing them business so brought in the 'Taste of Anthem' menu some nights on Anthem making all the included restaurant menus the same and then they mess around with the idea of a non formal ship. Unless its publicised how can people pack to include more formal outfits and even if people plan and pack formal outfits are they not going to feel out of place on the Royal Nights if many are as casual as they normally are (and why wouldnt they be, its billed as an informal ship).

 

This is like a political party announcing a policy, then getting worried that it will lose them some votes so they fudge it around the edges and end up with a mess.

I think the UK/European market is generally more formal anyway so one would assume that more people would dress formally during 'royal nights'.
