Escargot Advice - I know I'll eat it up!

I always get them, and for our last 6 cruises they've been on the menu at least once per cruise - even a 3 day. They are served on a white platter with little "nests" for the escargot, no shells as in a French restaurant. Of the 6 or 8 servings I've had they've been a little overdone a couple times.

But now the clams casino - oh man - not seen them since the Sapphire.

Then you need to head waiter shop. ;)

Done it for the last 20 plus cruises with one where there was none onboard a couple of years ago.

Agree here. I asked our head waiter for our table of 6, on the first night of a 7 nighter last year. We had escargot for the next 4 consecutive nights without requesting it. Actually told him to stop, as my table mates were "escargoted" out!

I got to the point it was my main course, with rolls on the side for sure. :D

Sooo good. I don't eat it anywhere else but the cruise either so I look forward to it for sure. :)

I've actually heard similar stories of well-meaning but overly-accommodating waiters where escargot is concerned after somebody expresses a specific interest in obtaining them. I'm near a 14-day cruise and would like them no more than, say, three times (the formal nights perhaps). To me they're a delicacy and their consumption should remain more or less a rare or special thing.

I now have this absurd image of a slightly tipsy, well-fed cruiser trying to prop themselves up with a teeny-weeny pair of frogs legs...

A friend asked me to pick up some Pigs Ears for his dog at the pet store. It drove me crazy wondering how to ask for them - Do You Have Pigs Ears ? - I would like some Pigs Ears - Where are the Pigs Ears. Fortunately I found the bag on the shelf :D

Ever had a pig ear sandwich? A must try at least once.

On these evenings in the unlikely absence of escargot there are quite often frog's legs to fall back on.

I'd greatly look forward to that. I've never myself had frog's legs and wonder what they taste like. Could it be worse than iguana jowls? :D

I cannot remember the last time I have seen frogs legs on a Princess menu.

Perhaps John Watson can elaborate on the source of his discovery of them being available "quite often" (in the absence of escargot). Cuz, uh, Iwantsomeofthat, Iwantsomeofthat, Iwantsomeofthat.

I have heard but haven't been able to try it. At the Purser's desk the have the MDR menus for your cruise that they will let you see. That way you can see if that are going to have them or not. Also added bonus is if a night you don't care about the menu you can make other plans.

A head waiter will show them to you as well. :)

They are very much like chicken with a slight hint of pond.

Seriously

We had escargot one night on our recent 10 day Royal cruise. I ordered 2, because....well, because. I don't know if real butter was used, because the taste was not quite as rich as I'm used to. I love soaking my bread as much as eating the escargot, but not so much this time.
