The last time we were at GSC, you could not pay for one once there - they were all sold out. You do get a priority tender ticket if you booked one.

Thanks for the info. Will definitely book one after we board.

Same here. The last two times to GSC they were sold out by the time we got there. 2011 and 2014. In 2014 we had a cabana, but in 2011 we reserved the clam shell once we got onboard. When we were waiting to tender to the island with the Haven guests, because having an excursion booked or clam shell or cabana gets you priority tendering, a Haven guest was livid because she hadn't reserved a clam shell (there were no cabanas then) and they were sold out. She felt they should have read her mind and reserved one for her.

When you reserve a clam shell' date=' do you pick your location at that time, or when you get to the island?

Is there a map/layout of the land to help you decide where you want to station yourself?[/quote']

I don't know if there's a map available but, when we rented one, you found a location when you got there. An attendant will take your ticket and help you find one.

There are no rules (yet) against bringing your own equipment & gears to GSC, you can do a quick stop at Target, Walmart, Sports Authority or outdoor stores to see what's available locally - besides orderly one online via eBay or Amazon (might be too late for upcoming sailing ...) - some of the lighter ones are 6 or 4 pounds only, easy & quick to setup and come with over the shoulder carrying case/pouch (at prices comparable to a day's rental) Just a thought ;)
