winniewinnie Posted May 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Weather looks like it may be wet in June. Do people wear ponchos in the northern capitals or will i look like a total dork? Trying to pack light here. :D
LondonTowner Posted May 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Wear what you want. Nobody is going to care what you have on.
Scriv Posted May 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 26, 2015 You will only look a total dork if it tips down and you have nothing to keep you dry and you get totally soaked.
eandj Posted May 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2015 I take a hooded waterproof jacket. Serves to keep the wind out and me warmer if needed. DH does carry a couple nylon traveling ponchos in case. But I'd rather just wear the jacket. It's a personal preference. And yes you will see them all over in downpours...on the tourists.
dsrdsrdsr Posted May 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) Ponchos are very lightweight. Carry one with you, and then you have the choice of wearing it and being dry and individual, or not wearing it and being wet but fashionable. Alternatively, take a showerproof coat and an umbrella. Giantfan13 Posted May 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Do you really care what others think you look like if it rains? We always carry those cheap disposable ponchos, but if you are against them, pack one of those small collapsible umbrellas. They can fit into your bag and with an umbrella, you won't look like a dork. :D:D:D:D:D Cheers Len
Kryssa Posted May 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 27, 2015 We bring a very lightweight jacket that folds into itself - an example of something kind of similar is the Uniqlo Pocketable Parka - and a small umbrella.
Splinter Posted June 1, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 1, 2015 Yes, you will see a lot of tourists using ponchos; not Norwegians. They will generally be wearing mid-thigh hooded and wind proof rain coats. A lot of locations are also windy (including on board ship) and ponchos are not very practical in those conditions.
