Meals in Sydney Australia

...These days most restaurants have hand-held credit card machines that they bring to your table (no slips) and you key in your pin to confirm the transaction. In some restaurants, there will be an opportunity to enter a tip or you can just press enter. Warning - do not key in your pin at the tip prompt  although most waiters check for this. In some restaurants the waiter will actually bypass the tip entry screen for you.

Most Americans do not yet have chip & pin cards. We're just now starting to get cards with a chip (our new Visa arrived last week, others are due by October), but so far none we've received have a pin number, still signature requirements. We were just in Canada where they used the hand-held machines and they accepted our card with a signature - same in Australia and New Zealand?

You should be able to sign, but some shop attendants may get confused

Don't miss eating A "tiger" @ Harry's; we sat on the same bench when the PBS guy reviewed this on the travel channel. It was wonderful and traditional. Also saw a great fish carry-out place as we were boarding the boat to go to the opera house and so we got some when we got back; it was delicious!

One night we ate outside @ a little cafe for pizza; left a tip and our waitress ran us down to return the tip money. Never had that experience before or since.

Australia is GREAT!!!

Lots of great little spots like those.

And I might just have a "tiger" for lunch today.

In 2013, we stayed in The Rocks prior to boarding the Solstice.

We liked The Fine Food Store, tucked into the corner of a small shopping center in the Rocks. Address is: Kendall Lane & Mill Lane, The Rocks NSW 2000, Australia. Very casual, breakfast, sandwiches, snacks, etc. http://www.finefoodstore.com

We liked Fratelli Fresh also. http://www.fratellifresh.com.au Very lively. Good food. Locations in other parts Sydney as well.

Another restaurant we liked was Vintage Cafe (http://www.vintagecafe.com.au)

R2 Nurses Walk, The Rocks Sydney NSW 2000 | Ph: (02) 9252 2055

Bon appetit and bon voyage

Not sure signing is accepted anymore.

Officially it is for Overseas cards, but will the staff know that?

Ask you bank for a PIN, doesn't have to have a chip, and life will be smoother. :)

My chip card has never worked, not a problem , they just swipe and PIN.

I am pretty sure staff will know. PIN's were phased out several months ago.
