VOIP App Question

Has anyone used any of the viop apps such as Vonage (already a Vonage customer for home phone) or Magic Jack to make calls to the U.S. from the Caribbean using public wifi? If so, what was your experience? Recommendation(s)?

Skype works well. Many of the crew use it, that's why you will see them clustered around a free wifi spot in most any port you visit.

In addition to Skype, highly recommend both Viber and WhatsApp. Just make sure whomever you're calling or texting has also installed the app. (Just did a trial run with my parents so they can call me next week from their European cruise!)

do you need wifi to use the Viber or Whatsapp? my understanding is that the messages and calls are sent through the data on the phone.

What's App needs to be connected to the Internet, not necessarily wifi.
