BigDaddyCVO Posted May 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2015 Has anyone used any of the viop apps such as Vonage (already a Vonage customer for home phone) or Magic Jack to make calls to the U.S. from the Caribbean using public wifi? If so, what was your experience? Recommendation(s)?
thinfool Posted May 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2015 Skype works well. Many of the crew use it, that's why you will see them clustered around a free wifi spot in most any port you visit.
tarheelkate Posted June 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2015 In addition to Skype, highly recommend both Viber and WhatsApp. Just make sure whomever you're calling or texting has also installed the app. (Just did a trial run with my parents so they can call me next week from their European cruise!) ReeeB Posted March 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) do you need wifi to use the Viber or Whatsapp? my understanding is that the messages and calls are sent through the data on the phone. Edited March 12, 2016 by ReeeB
