Fathers day gift cards

I just contacted our TA. Her response was that for every $100 of GC that I use, she would deduct $25 of the OBC that the Agency was giving us :( (FYI - We were booking with TA as they were offering us $225 free OBC).

This does not make sense to me. When I have used a TA that gave OBC, the OBC reduced only if the price of the cruise dropped because their commission was based on the price of the cruise - sailing on Celebrity or RCCL, not Carnival. How does the TA's commission drop if you are using GC? Maybe I'm missing something, but I would be a bit disappointed if this happened to me. :o

I agree completely. We haven't booked yet with the TA... And we're really surprised with their "policy".

So... Just asking - If I were to buy say $2000 of GCs. Can I just pay for my cruise with my MasterCard (earns 2% anyways), then take the GC's with me, load up at Casino and cash out? Would that work?

Oh that's just awful, and I'm surprised she can get away with this!!

That is a total and complete rip-off! I would run from any TA doing that!

To answer your question, yes you can use the gift cards to load on your S&S. I'm not sure about cashing out. I've heard mixed responses in that regard.

I'm a TA and can tell you that when someone pays with a gift card, it does not decrease the TA's commission at all. The TA deducting the OBC makes absolutely no sense.

How do you buy gift cards through AARP?

Go to AARP site...create an account....then click on Rewards for Good. Works just like Verizon. I have gotten some from Verizon but have not yet been able to snag any from AARP...always says sold out or not showing at all.

We took advantage of the GC sale during Black Friday weekend last year. Lost of people talked about the Father's Day sale at that time.

In hopes of finding the sale this next week, I was doing some creative financing to make sure that my Carnival MC has room for me to purchase GCs to use for expenses on our July Alaska cruise.

I was 99% sure they wouldn't do it again this year. It was TOOOOO popular last year. ;)

I agree. Plus gift cards in general are way more popular this year since last year and there are ways to get them discounted year round. No real need for them to push gift cards anymore.

They may do the Black Friday thing but I wouldn't count on that either.

Just got an email. Princess is offering a $25 gift card when you purchase $500. Dads & Grads promotion. Haven't gotten an email from Carnival yet.

I received the same thing from Princess. Not that good of a deal...5% if you get $500 but if you get more, you still only get $25. Then again 5% is better than nothing.

Nothing from Carnival. Guess I will keep getting them on AARP and saving 10%.
