sixesandeights Posted July 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2015 What is the method on NCL for cashing out unused OBC? Is there any way to cash out and avoid fees? If it is refundable OBC you will get the unused portion back at the end of the cruise. If it is non-refundable the best (only?) real option is the casino and you will take a 3% hit. 6&

If I have to take the small hit at the casino that is okay, but if I can avoid it based on the type of OBC I have, why lose out?

If you have refundable OBC, you can get cash from Guest Services at the end of your cruise. The reason many people opt for a check is they don't want to end their vacation standing in line for an excessive period of time.

Asked at guess service there and they told us we can't use it for normal gratuities NOR at the casino. We can use it for additional gratuities, though, so that's what we did. jemz1949 Posted July 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2015 If in doubt, I typically will go to Guest Services around mid-cruise and ask them what if any portion of the OBC is refundable. That way, I can better judge what I have available to spend and what know portion of it is or is not refundable. If I have any refundable remaining, I go to Guest Service on the last afternoon/evening and claim my refund in cash.
jrbeccles Posted July 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Will that refund be in cash? I hear a lot of people speak of having a check mailed. On the Getaway last month I was too busy having fun to look at my accounts to follow balances. I got a check from NCL about three weeks after for the balance of my refundable OBC dollars. I left I think about $30 of non refundable OBC unspent unfortunately - so take a few minutes to check near the end of your cruise.
Rare LMaxwell Posted July 14, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted July 14, 2015 If specialty dining is still price fixed I won't have to worry about this. if it switches to a la carte by our sailing I will go to the casino and take the hit and get cash in hand and skip specialty dining. tartan cruiser Posted July 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 14, 2015 I'd like to know the answer to this too. We were on the Epic and waited until the last night to check our account and found we had some remaining non-refundable obc. Was told it couldn't be used for gratuities or in the casino. Bought bottles of liquor so we wouldn't lose it. Has anyone been able to use non-refundable credit in the casino? Just curious.
garycarla Posted July 14, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 14, 2015 We find that one of the 372 bars onboard is the best place to "cash out" our OBC. Of course, avoiding prepaying ANYTHING might also help.
