Itsbeentoolong Posted July 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Hi Everyone My future MIL has always dreamed of going on a cruise so as a surprise we are taking her for her 50th next year. We've told her to book the time of work and are pretending we are going away to Spain. We thought as a bit of fun on the 25th of each month we'd send her a picture as a clue, but not something to give it away and after 3 months were stuck :/ can anyone help. We want to give her a card on her 50th with all the pictures on it. We're on the Navigator of the Seas, may 21st 2016. So far we've done a picture of Prince Harry meeting Usain Bolt (Royal Caribbean), picture of the film Flight of the Navigator (Navigator) and a map of where we're going. Thanks Dean
BarcoUK Posted July 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Christopher Columbus? He was a great navigator of the seas.
CaptData Posted July 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2015 What are your ports? Do you have a picture of a sign post at one of the ports? If it is a famous statue or building in one of the ports. Or you could continue with film references.
denamo Posted July 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2015 More generic than specific: Maybe a picture of a GPS. Great tool for a navigator. How about a picture of Rosetta Stone box for Spanish? Not sure what ports you will be going to, but maybe a picture of something obscure at one of your ports of call that might somewhat mimic Spain. 330searay Posted July 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2015 If you GOOGLE Spanish Navigator, the first hit you recieve is "Juan Fernandez". I think that would be a good clue. BTW Awesome idea.
Itsbeentoolong Posted July 24, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted July 24, 2015 thanks! we are visiting Le Havre (for Paris), Gijon, Lisbon and Vigo.
ZoeyVictoria Posted July 24, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2015 I once used the word "cruise" in a foreign language as a clue for a surprise cruise. I Googled the translation of "cruise", then copied and pasted the translated language with the strangest looking symbols. It was impossible to Google in reverse with an English keyboard, so it remained a mystery to the recipient of the cruise.
Susie51 Posted July 24, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Nice idea! Picture of a painting by a French artist.
TC1957 Posted July 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Want to throw her a curve...give her a picture of Steamboat Willie (aka Mickey Mouse). That cartoon (one of Disney's first) was on a boat.
Rare APDMOM Posted July 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Since we are big Tom & Jerry fans, I would suggest the last clue to be a family viewing of the episode "Cruise Cat" :D
Rare APDMOM Posted July 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Ooh! Or for a final clue, give her a 100 piece custom made puzzle of Navigator with no picture to build it from. :D I will have to put this into practice one of these days... I can send you a large format of this one if you are interested. I don't have a very good picture of the whole ship... just this one: Maybe someone else can help out if you are interested in making a puzzle. Hydrophilic Posted July 24, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 24, 2015 What a great idea! My idea is pretty specific (and gives it away) but you could create a rebus puzzle with a photograph of a Lincoln Navigator and a lot of 'C's. You could also modify this with the Navigator over the seas, as you will be going overseas. Hope this help. Have fun!
MaiseyM Posted July 24, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 24, 2015 I've thought of doing something somewhat similar for my children. I was thinking of giving them clues that have to do with the ship as well. Maybe photos of things that they won't 'get' until they know they are cruising. Or key words/photos of headliner shows, comedians, fun drinks... something along the lines of the ship stuff vs. excursion. All good ideas. EbayCruiser Posted July 24, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Maybe a picture of a towel animal?
EbayCruiser Posted July 24, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Or a person getting a massage. A picture of an airplane.
Thoie Posted July 24, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 24, 2015 a) I now feel old b) How about a copy of Ravel's Bolero. If she's 50 she'll remember Torville and Dean's ice skating performance to the music, and the answer to the clue is ice skating (something you can do on Navigator). A copy of the Sylvester Stallone movie Cliffhanger could likewise indicate the climbing wall. Maybe a picture of a game of bingo, and a close up of a poker table/slot machine/something casino-y? Here's a picture of Lisbon taken from a ship - if she doesn't know Lisbon, it might work.
tropiclvrs Posted July 24, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 24, 2015 To the OP, what a fun idea! I am also very impressed by all the great idea our fellow CC'ers have. How about a picture of a "crown"
