syesmar Posted July 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2015 I’ll most likely be taking a cruise to the Canary Islands in December. I have heard the night sky is beautiful for stargazing. We’re in port until 11pm on a couple of days, but also wanted to know if there is generally a beautiful night sky from the ship while sailing, for those who have made this sailing? Thanks! Yes, once you get away from the port, but this answer applies to almost anywhere once you are away from any industrial area. I live 70 miles from the sea, and the night sky here is amazing. syesmar Posted December 22, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted December 22, 2015 Just disembarked from our Canary Islands Adventure this past Sunday and wanted to report back. YES!!! The night sky was amazing, especially in the Canaries. We were fortunate enough to be aboard during a meteor shower and the best viewing area was 1 level above the Crow's Nest on the open deck. The skies were clearer than I've ever seen! We put out deck loungers and took it in. It was spectacular. We had a 2nd & 3rd night where there was good visibility, as well. Happy Travels! LondonTowner Posted December 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2015 That island of La Palma has one of the most important observatories in the world, so that should tell you something.
