kruzseeka Posted July 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) Thomson have confirmed that the Mein Schiff 1 & 2 will be joining the Thomson Fleet in 2018 & 2019 respectively. Well spotted Jules! Well that was something we had anticipated wasn't it but now we know when! I don't mind too much that it's not a new (well apart from the principle that we're second class citizens as compared with the German market) as we've never had a problem with the age of the Thomson ships - it's what's delivered on board which matters to us. But after going on a bigger ship more recently I think the deck space/size of ship/ number of passengers/public space balance does make a difference. So just off to look at the specs! davecttr Posted July 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) They will have to do some work on them. MS2 does not have a casino :(:eek: They did spend a LOT of money converting them for the german market. Any 'new' ships joining in 2017? That will leave Thomson with a 5 ship operation, what are they going to do with them in the winter season? Not to sure how it work.s, but if dream carries 1,500 and gross weight of 54,000 ton,s to ms1 and ms2 69,000 tons and will carry 1,800 pax i thinks more room per passenger per ratio

They may only have the three larger " New Ships " I agree - would they be able to sell 5? I think they could possibly be reducing their fleet size Nancy. davecttr Posted July 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2015 If the caribbean can provide enough revenue for two ships plus one in the canaries I can't see mothballing 2 others for the winter as making economic sense. Maybe Dream and Celebration will be leaving as well. However the 3 'new' ships have a nominal capacity of 5832 passengers compared with 7022 for the existing 5 ships. The current winter capacity is 4232 passengers.
Malch_uk Posted July 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 28, 2015 They'll have to copy Fred and do South America and World cruises during the Winter. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
davecttr Posted July 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 28, 2015 They'll have to copy Fred and do South America and World cruises during the Winter. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk but will there be the demand? Thomson operations seem to be very much integrated with where their airline flies and where they have hotels. Also, apart from re-positioning everything works on 7 or 14 night schedules. You can't do that with a worldie or even a segment of a worldie! Malch_uk Posted July 28, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I was thinking of a use for mothballed ships in the Winter. The cruises would be UK to UK. No flights or hotels needed. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk

The current winter capacity is 4232 passengers. Three " new " ships operating at full capacity. Demand greater than supply, so no more need to offer " late deals " to fill the ships. Children now charged adult price at age 12 instead of 16. One adult only ship. Solo passengers now being charged almost double the price for a single cabin. Cinema gone, replaced by balcony cabins at ridiculously inflated prices compared to other lines. Classical duo, gone ??? Pay extra coffee shop instead. Rip off drinks package with supplements for more and more drinks added every season. If you do buy it, not enough waiters to serve the passengers, who sometimes have to wait a long time to be served. The few that remain are doing a great job, considering the extra work load due to cuts. One less course on dinner menu and quality of food not what it once was. Now you have a choice of salad OR soup. Thomson shops charging £25 to match online price. Pay to reserve a cabin. Pay to reserve your seat on the plane. Charge for safe. I think I can see where it is going in the future. Bye bye Thomson. Tui is not for me. And it seems some of the best CDs think the same.

kalos Posted July 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 29, 2015 I agree too Nancy and the only thing I can see you left out was Thomson's stupid rule of... ..Once you book your holiday only then will we let you know if your cabin you desire is available . A bit like walking into a shop asking for a thick sliced loaf if they have any . Only to be told .."Well buy it first then we will tell you ":( Hope they upgrade their ideas as well as the ships :)
