Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how to get from the Brooklyn cruise pier

to downtown Manhattan, specifically 9/11 Memorial site?

Is there easy access to public transportation, or is it costly to take a cab?

We were there 6 years ago, but now would like to tour the museum

and pay our respects. Appreciate your suggestions.

Where are our Brooklyn folks? OP - be patient - someone will respond. Meanwhile give us a few more details. Do you have a one day port stop in Brooklyn? Are you doing this without luggage?

Public transportation would involve walking from the cruise terminal to a bus stop, taking the B61 bus to a subway station, taking the subway into Manhattan (possibly two subways depending on which subway station you start at) and then walking to the 9/11 Memorial. Probable travel time is about 45 minutes. You can get exact routing options at hopstop.com .

A taxi will probably cost about $15-20 plus tolls and tip. Exact amount is dependent on traffic and route taken.

Our ship is in port for a day in Brooklyn. No luggage, just a

day excursion planned and am hoping to take public transport, if possible.

Thanks in advance for suggestions. Regards.:D

Use "taxi fare finder (insert city name)" and you will get pretty good estimates on fares virtually anywhere in North America. From Red Hook to the 9/11 museum is about $20 cab, including tip. Depending on your trusting nature, Uber or Lyft will be less. At least the mayor of NYC is working to regulate these car services.

At least the mayor of NYC is working to regulate these car services.

Uber is regulated by the Taxi & Limousine Commission in NYC.

The Mayor is trying to put a limit on the number of Uber cabs in the city but that currently will not effect service.

With TLC regulation in NYC these are the city requirements

Uber driver need a T&LC License (Fee, CDL or Class E License, Defensive driving course within 6 months, TLC Medical Exam) and the car must have TLC plates (qualify: 2010 or newer, commercially insured and assigned to a "base" or diamond TLC Sticker, Make and model on TLC list certain models must be black).

B61 trip from cruise terminal to Atlantic Ave is around 15 to 20 minutes. Weekend service runs every 15 minutes and max of 20 minutes at night. http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bkln/b061cur.pdf

As a Brooklyn resident I've taken the B61 to go to Red Hook (Ikea), use cabs to and from the port. Would go with a cab Uber, Black Car or Taxi (Yellow or Green). With a metered cab (Yellow/Green) you can tell them not to take the tunnel if you want to save the toll. Black Car/Uber the driver decides route and probably will take the Hugh Carey Tunnel at $5.54 each way (don't let them charge you the $8 cash price, all cabs must have EZPass and charge that rate).
