No Pop from Ports

Recommended Posts

This thread has gone to middle earth and back again. The new restrictions from Carnival says that bottles of water and beverages are not allowed. Period. And they go on to say that no longer can you bring beverages onboard at a port.

Souvenirs like hot sauce, perfume, vanilla are not alcohol for consumption or are they beverages. Where in the world is the confusion. And if a guy at port check in tried to confiscated my souvenirs there would be hell to pay...end of story. And if they were presently disallowing these items you bet your sweet bippy that these threads would be a torrent of posts about it...haven't seen one.

People just want reassurance that they won't be the person targeted by a guy at check in who overreactions to bottles of liquid, because no one wants a fight like that on vacation. I can understand the worry for people who buy these things.

I just want to know:

(1) Does this include bottles of water with Carnival's logo? I had imagined us walking on and off the ship at Grand Turk with our past guest water bottles.

(2) Does this mean personal refillable water bottles can be brought off but must now be emptied and shown to staff before getting back on board?

We usually bought Diet Coke in ports to replenish our supplies, especially on longer cruises. Now we can no longer do that. initially JH said we could still do that, but he has now corrected himself. I do not like the bubbles plan because you get a partial can of warm pop over ice. You may get a part of a can that has sit open for a while. I prefer cold pop with no ice. I guess we will just have to bite the bullet and buy cans or drink other things. :-(

We just got back on July 25th off the Valor and my husband was able to buy a 12 pack of cans in Nassau and St. Thomas and bring them back on board with no problems.

Just buy the we soda on the ship. If they dont have the kind u like, suck it up and drink something else. If u can afford to cruise to should be able too buy sodas its only 2$. Ten a day is 20$ ×7 = 140 cant afford that drink lemonade ice tea or water from the lido deck. Quit the crying and deal with it. CARNIVAL is a business, of course they want to make more profit.

All we ever bring is a few cans of Coke and it never occurred to bring my favorite soda, which only comes in fragile glass bottles -- but I'd like Carnival to clarify and consistently enforce all the rules about what can be brought back on board at ports. And I really wish people weren't sneaking on alcohol in ports, so we could continue to carry water bottles back and forth in peace.

This issue was debated on another thread and some of the people posting here posted on that thread and have already had their questions answered. Unfortunately, I think they just don't like the answers they got. I don't get the confusion as it's really pretty simple if you've read the fine print. The no bottles on board rule has to do with BEVERAGES ONLY and not vanilla, hot sauce, toiletries, etc. The new rule as of July 9th is all about BEVERAGES.

If you ask Carnival if you can bring a product on board and they say "Yes, but is has to be brought on board in your checked luggage."...then put it in your checked luggage and be happy...there is now no problem. Where's the confusion there? There are like a gazillion ways to keep bottles from leaking if they should break in your suitcase. Suggestions re same can be found on these boards and all over the internet if that is a real concern. But the real problem is that the poster says they just doesn't want to do it because well...they just doesn't want to. In this case I do understand the poster's confusion because I don't believe apple cider vinegar is a beverage...apple cider itself yes. But maybe Carnival or the person the poster spoke with considers the vinegar a beverage...whatever...the poster's need is being accommodated...just not to their liking.

So many have scammed Carnival and now we have to pay the price. It's our own fault. Why is anyone surprised that Carnival, or any other cruise line for that matter, wants to make money? They are a for profit corporation. It's the whole point of "for profit" that you make a profit. No one has to sail on Carnival. If people hate them so much...they have the right to go sail on another line. I pick and choose what I want to purchase or not purchase on my cruises. If I think prices are too high for a certain item then I just don't buy it. You won't see me buying a bottle of booze on a cruise no matter what line I sail on. And...the price for a can of soda on Carnival is the same, if not cheaper than, some of the high end restaurants on land. So I just don't get what the beef is with that either. I'm just glad that Carnival allows me to bring on any amount of the particular brand of soda that I like. It's a privilege that I appreciate. Carnival allows 12 12 oz. cans per person so if you're traveling with a partner that means you can bring on 24 cans of soda which also means you'll be able to drink 3 cans of soda a day. That's a lot...however...if your partner also likes pop...ut oh...you're out of luck! LOL!

Here are some tips for keeping your soda cold on board. If someone likes to bring on a cold soda from port so they can have a cold one when they're back of the ship...put one in the ice bucket before getting off the ship. Then when you get back on board it will be nice and cold and ready to drink. I usually ask for two buckets of ice to be brought to our cabin everyday and I just keep replacing cans of soda in them as I drink them. Works for me. We're also allowed to bring on a cooler (not larger than 12x12x12) that can be filled with ice and soda. I'm going to give that a try on my next cruise. I hope these tips help. I know they've been posted before but I thought I'd share them again.

To answer some of the poster's other question...I read somewhere on these boards that you are not allowed to bring back on board bottles of Carnival water especially if they've been opened. Carnival water bottles can be tampered with the same as any other brand of water and I think the whole point of this situation is that Carnival wants to TRY and keep control of what kind of beverages are coming on board their ships.

These are JMHOs and are not meant to scold or offend anyone. I agree with everyone that prices of products on cruises are way inflated...I know that going in and I choose to cruise anyway and pick and choose what I want to purchase or not. I just love cruising and still think it's the best bang for my travel buck.

Peace to all!

Okay this is funny.....I forgot I had an empty water bottle in my purse....they took it! Really it was empty I drank my water and was just going to reuse the bottle

Next time I drive to the port I going to clean all the crap out of my vehicle and let them throw it away.

Thanks for the information. I am addicted to Diet Coke and do not like it over ice so I will do that. We have a 21 day B2B which will let us each bring 24 cans of Coke. Maybe my husband will just have to drink the wine and ice tea. LOL

When I have done a back to back cruise (B2B) the Purser's Office contacts me before the end of cruise #1 and asks how I want to handle customs. I always pass on the escorting back on and ahead of all the new cruisers to cruise #2. Then I go to the grocery store to buy more wine and soft drinks. I have my passport and "In transit" form to get back on the ship and as long as I stay within the measly allocated amount 24 cans of soda and 2 bottles of wine (there are two of us) we sail through the "security" aka bag screen/xray and voila back on ship with fresh liquid provisions.

For all you water drinkers- You can now buy a 12 pack of bottled water from the Fun Shops for $2.99. I bought 4 for our 2 rooms. Total cost- $11.96 for 4-12 packs. Can't beat that! And I don't have to haul it. You have to purchase it before the cruise. Once onboard, the price goes up.

It is $4.99 once on board - still a bargain.

Ya kind of lost me, what is making their profits skyrocket?

To strictly ban water and soda will also keep the beer and liquor smuggling down. I'm sure they are after the profit loss of smuggling and I don't blame them. People will still drink until they're drunk whether they are paying CCL or sneaking it. So, I can see their profits going up. From what I've read sometimes it's the alcohol sales that make or break a cruise profit.
