eng4 Posted July 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2015 I remember recently seeing a conversation about the gold/silver they sell on the ships by the inch. I was surprised to see a lot of negatives since I haven't had any problems with my silver set. I wanted to go back and finish reading them but cant find it. Anyone have the link? riffatsea Posted July 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2015 Maybe it was this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1913479 You do know that the silver and gold are not "real". They are gold or silver "plated".
jmcancruise Posted July 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2015 They may be gold and silver plated, but I have had some pieces for almost 10 years and they still look fine. I know they aren't the real deal, but I wear mine so seldom that they have lasted well.
love my grandkids Posted July 31, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2015 But people sure line up to buy this crap:(
AHS123 Posted July 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2015 Mine turned green. The nice thing is at that price you throw it away and vow never to go there again and don't.
kunnocat Posted August 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2015 I had a gold bracelet that tarnished badly, but then I worn it a lot. I have also made myself a lanyard from the gold which I wear at night when dressed up. I just pop the card down the front of what I am wearing and just show the chain. It has worn well. love my grandkids Posted August 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 1, 2015 From all the complaints on here, have to believe their shops know this stuff badly wears but they sell it anyway. So much for offering quality.:(
LadyGal4 Posted August 1, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2015 I have gold and silver, and both haven't tarnished. They wear very nicely. eng4 Posted August 1, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted August 1, 2015 My silver set I bought two years ago is in perfect condition but I don't wear it all the time. My friend wears a silver bracelet she had made more then 5 years ago in the shower and everything and its still perfect. Weird. Maybe the silver lasts better then gold? Gold and silver is valued by weight not length. Its a great money maker for the cruise lines as well as a lot of people selling at flea markets... They sell a roll to the vendor and he is then able to sell by the inch for a lot more then the roll is worth...
Carnival_Brides Posted August 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 1, 2015 We bought it our first few cruises as a fun memento. At the time we were told if anything happened (clasp broke, etc) we could bring it on our next cruise and they would fix it. Well it happened and on our next cruise we were given cards to send it to Miami for someone to fix. We immediately stopped purchasing it and I still have the baggy of broken chains in my jewelry box. Purvis1231 Posted August 2, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 2, 2015 I have bought some for my little girl, it was cheap she thought there were great. She still wears it. If it tarnish, we will exchange it on our next cruise.

love my grandkids Posted August 2, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 2, 2015 This junk is for the newbies or those who don't read Cruise Critic true but it amazes me to see how many people like up for this "bargain"
micro yaya Posted August 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 2, 2015 I love my inch of gold. it turned, so on my next cruise I asked if they would replace it, and they did with no problem. I don't understand the negative comments. it says lifetime guarantee, and the kids in that dept. were so nice we never had any lip service
jayscore Posted August 2, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 2, 2015 When I see the gold by the foot coming off a roll, just like buying rope at the hardware store, I just KNOW it has to be quality merchandise, eh?

riffatsea Posted August 2, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) For me something is a "bargain" if I get the real deal for a low price! Since this stuff is not "real" it is not a bargain. it's just inexpensive and so that's why there are lots of negative comments. It is kind of like saying "I got Motel 6 for under $100" when that is probably the normal price. Edited August 2, 2015 by riffatsea
