Rainy Day plans?

Our Roatan plans were for a day at Mahogany Bay. We were trying to spend as little as possible, so no excursion booked.

 

It's looking like there may be heavy rain... what is there to do in Roatan on a rainy day? Hopefully something we could schedule last minute, only as a backup plan.

We are in pretty much the same boat. We do have a booking for Little French Key, but we're wondering if we will actually be able to go because of the weather.

If we have HEAVY rain the day of our port stop, we will stay on the ship!

If it truly is heavy rain, there is not much point in leaving the ship, travel will be a challenge and the water will be mucky due to run off.

In all honesty as much as I love the Island, I would stay on the ship. If it's pouring there isn't much to do.

You don't say what cruise line you're on, but if it's really rainy, don't worry about what you do, worry about whether you make it to port. Roatan gets skipped a lot in bad weather.

Op shows Carnival ships, which means Mahogany Bay. That does increase a likelihood of cancelling if weather is heavy. But currently there are no tropical systems anywhere near or expected to be near Roatan in the next couple of weeks. This is rainy season and there is always a possibility of rain in the form of a short shower.

Crewsweeper seems a bit confused on weather and cancellations, Most of the times when Carnival Ships miss port there are no tropical storm issues, as a matter of fact, during most tropical storms, the southside, where Mahogany Bay is located is the leeward side of the Island and very calm, Carnival misses port more often during normal weather patterns when the winds are strong trade winds coming from the south east

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't mean that the ONLY time cancellations occur was during inclement weather, just stating that it could be a possibility, and with no TS on the horizon, likelihood of cancellation due to stormy weather is remote. That doesn't mean there can't be a cancellation due to wind affecting the shallow cove; a point I've made in countless threads on this issue.

Tis extremely extremely rare for a ship to miss port at Mahogany Bay due to tropical storm, the VAST majority of times the port has been missed has been due to normal wind patterns affecting the southside. Even during times when Hurricanes are near they are usually north and the Southside is generally very calm, This is why during many TS times those with snorkel and dive excursions are often bussed from the popular north side resorts to areas on the south side
