Norway North Cape Cruise

Thinking of booking the North Cape cruise. Other than the June cruise being far north on June 21st, is there any significant difference in taking a June cruise vs. an August cruise. Less ice? Warmer? Able to get into all the ports?

At the ports are there towns that you can explore on your own. Are there private tour guides?

The weather can vary minute to minute. We did the north Cape in late june. Long days for sure. We lucked out with beautiful sunny skies almost every day. No rain. Of course you will need to pack layers for those cool days as you go north.

Norway isn't like European itineraries where you can find lots of private tour companies. The season is just to short for folks to make a tours a full time job. We did ship tours to the spots we really wanted to see away from the ports. There are a handful of ports that are easily done on your own tho.

If you book the cruise, be sure to get your tickets ordered for the train in Flam asap. They ALWAYS sell out, both private purchase and via ship excursion. And that is a wonderful spot. Also the check out the lysfjord boat trip if interested...very popular and tickets sell out. There is tons of info online and at the port board here.

We did the summer solstice cruise in 2014 on the Ruby Princess. This was in mid June. No other cruise is as scenic and beautiful as this cruise was. Once above the artic circle you will see waterfall after waterfall. The Flam train was stunning. I got a group of 12 together for the flam railroad so we could purchase group tickets in advance. This was easy to do on the roll call. Anyways Norway is absolutely STUNNING. Weather wise, well it was cold enough for me to wear a knit hat, gloves, and a warm jacket for most of the trip except when on the ship. Temps were around 45 to 50 degrees for the most part. I highly recommend this cruise.

Did the North Cape several years ago.

Was there in late June. Great weather.

Suggest Ship's Tours there.

The Season there is rather short, so, Private Tours are scarce.

There is a very good Railway Tour there.

Get off of the Ship in one Fjord and pick up the Ship in another Fjord.

There was a Post Office at the North Cape.

Mailed several Post Cards to my Children from there.

Great Cruise -- Great scenery.

Yes -- You can walk around several of the Towns.
