E cigs question?

My DH is a smoker and also vapes with an e-cig. We are sailing on the Epic on 25 October and reading the terms and conditions in the 'Welcome Aboard' booklet, regarding no smoking in rooms, balconies, public spaces etc, there is no mention of e cigs only cigarettes, cigars and pipes. Have NCL relaxed their policy with regard to e cigs?

He is a considerate smoker and does not wish to offend other passengers but wonders what the current policy is towards vaping.

On the epic last week and some of the signage now states no e cigs alongside the normal no smoking. I think you will find it highly unlikely this will ever get relaxed anywhere -not just NCL- as it just causes confusion

From the bizarre smells though coming from the balconys though I would say they were being used on balconys

There is no odor with the e-cig...so if he wants to vape in his cabin, no one will ever know. Folks do get all bent out of shape if they SEE the vapor....but in the cabin, that won't be an issue. Any public smoking or vaping needs to be done in a smoking area.

I vape also. The cabins and balconies were no problem. I didn't want to freak anyone out so I wouldn't do it in a non-smoking inside area. Also on the pool deck, I vaped away and no one said anything to me. I think they're becoming common enough that people see what they are and don't worry about it. Outside, you'd never smell anything.

I have another random question. Goes more for smoking in general. On their smoking policy, it states that in the casino smoking is only for the players. I don't plan on gambling a whole lot but I do vape and don't want to have to go outside all the time to do it. I'm happy abiding by the rules of not doing it in the cabin but the wording of the policy suggest that if I am not actually gambling, I can't vape in the casino?

I'm assuming this is one of those policies that is there but isn't super strictly enforced. So basically, can I vape in the casino without actually gambling or will I get told to stop?

Yes the smoking policy does say that smoking in the casino is for players only however that would never be able to be enforced as they would not know if you are playing. There are plenty of people smoking there that may or may not be smoking. I think they say that so there isn't tons of people just hanging around smoking. I had no problem on the breakaway smoking in the casino this past week.

I am a smoker and have vaped and saying there is no odor is false. There are definitely smells to the different vape favors as I can smell them when I walk past people who are vaping. It is just not a smoke odor but a more pleasant fragrant smell.

That's what I would figure. Like I said, I'm sure it's just a rule but probably isn't super strictly enforced. Sometimes I just like to watch people play.

Totally agree. There is an odor. It doesn't really linger though so I don't think most people notice or are bothered.

There are flavors and some of them are pretty disgusting. If they were all unflavored, I wouldn't have an issue, but until then.....

On the Pearl late last year, the policy was enforced and some folks were asked to either play or leave. I've also read some reviews where they said the policy was enforced on their cruise. So, I guess it depends on the ship and the Casino Manager.

They would have a hard time trying to make me leave as I would just show them my card and tell them I am waiting for a drink.

Dang. Oh well. Like I said, I'm happy to abide by the rules. I'm cruising by myself and just want a good time with hopefully no hassles.

On our cruise last year I was in my balcony cabin and must have exhaled directly toward the ceiling smoke detector because it went off. My steward came rushing into the room, quickly sized up the situation, told me to hurry and hide all my vape stuff (chargers, juice, etc) because security would be coming to the room any second. I quickly threw everything into a drawer and security came to the room not a second later. I tried to look innocent and told them I had no idea why the smoke detector was going off...They looked around the cabin, were very polite, said it must be the humidity, and left. We had been vaping in our cabin for several days so this was an anomaly. We were very cautious about our vape exhale after that!!

I took a few puffs every time I walked through there. Really though, who would ever know if you vaped in your cabin?

Kinda like if you shop lift and never caught it's alright. why would anyone encourage this kind of bad behavior. Follow the rules. If I saw someone vape on their balcony I would report it immediately. It's now been stated that second vapors are harmful to non smokers.

E-cigs are addressed in the Frequently Asked Questions section on the website:

http://www.ncl.com/faq#smoking

,

Yes they are but I find it strange that there is no mention of them in the 'Welcome Aboard' booklet

Anyhow, thank you for your replies, I'm sure he will stick to where smoking is allowed......

Nonsense. Show me the study that states that propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin vapors are dangerous. You do know that is the same suspension used in nebulizers and inhalers, don't you? Could you imagine if we have been using PG for years to suspend asthma medications but it is dangerous to both the inhaler and the caregiver?

I vape in hotel rooms, restrooms, anywhere private really. No one will ever know. I do not recommend going sub ohm in confined spaces however because of the sheer volume of vapor produced.

You must be fun at parties.

Shoplifting is a crime. There's no comparison.

Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights

Jul 17, 2015 - Health concerns exist about the safety of the e-cigarette to nonsmokers. A study published in February 2010 found that nicotine causes the formation of carcinogens when it reacts with nitrous acid - a common component of indoor air. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is exhaled by the user in a vapor cloud.
