Hi Everyone

Thinking of taking the Island Princess thru the Panama Canal. Please let me know what you thought about the ship, food, entertainment and staff.

Thanx Bryna:)

I just got off the Island Princess on it's last cruise, and it was the Panama Canal itinerary. I highly recommend this cruise; the Panama Canal is one of the neatest things I have ever seen.

The food, staff, and entertainment were all good. - Especially the staff. I had the best waitress and bartender on Island that I've ever had. Every staff member I talked to was friendly and helpful.

From the entertainment I saw, it was good. I only went to one production show, so I can't really give you my opinion in that area. I spent every night in the piano bar. There is a really good piano entertainer on board right now. The day time activities were decent too.

As I have stated, I would highly recommend this cruise & itinerary.

You should have no complaints as long as you don't book cabin C230

Hi Diane….we are booked on the Coral Princess April 2017, PC. Forward ship is the same for both the Island and the Coral. I am concerned about your remarks regarding cabin C230. The couple that we will be traveling with will have that cabin on the Coral. We will be in C231 which is across the hall. I read a few reviews of our cabin and they are all positive. Yours is the first that I have seen about C230. When I look at the deck plans on the Island, I see that there are cabins above and below C230 which makes me wonder how you could you hear noise from the galley? So sorry that cabin did not work out for you, we’ve been there and it is no fun…..

I have a couple of questions. Is there an aft viewing area that is public space. Also can you tell me where the smoking areas are?

Currently on the Island now and the only aft viewing area besides cabins are from the Sanctuary which you pay extra for. As for smoking areas there is only one area on deck 15 forward ( by the grill), Churchill's on deck 7 and a small area in the casino.

I'm surprised to hear this. Deck plans still show an outside deck aft on Emerald. Are you saying that this, too, has been taken away?

I stand corrected. I walked to the back of Emerald and there is a viewing area on the aft of Emerald deck. We have a aft cabin on Baja so never bothered to look before.

I also look at the deck plans and pick a cabin between pax decks. So I have no idea how the plumbing was run but according to the guest manager, that is what we were hearing. And once we learned that, a dishwasher is exactly what it sounded like.

I should be very interested to find out if your friends experience the same on the Coral. Or maybe they can change cabins .....?

Well, that's good (good-ish) news. It doesn't completely make up for losing all the other stern decks, but at least there's still one tiny spot left from which one can enjoy those precious aft views.

Hi Bryna, I took the 10-day partial transit on Island Princess Nov. 25-Dec. 5. LOVED it. I thought the itinerary, ship, crew, entertainment, and food were all fantastic. This was my first Princess cruise (having cruised on HAL, NCL, and RCCL before) and Princess is now my favorite cruise line. I would definitely recommend this cruise if you have the opportunity.

I have some questions regarding the most recent renovations on the Island Princess.

1) Did the ship seem crowded due to the extra cabins?

2) With the loss of the Universe Lounge, were there enough entertainment options in other lounges? Were those lounges crowded?

3) Did you notice a vibration in the aft end of the ship? We are booked in one of the new staterooms on Deck 7, so I am hoping the vibration isn't too bad on the lower deck.

4) How was the remodel to the Horizon Court? I heard there's a coffee bar in the Horizon now and I'm wondering how it was.

Thank you in advance for answering.

I can also answer as I was on that cruise.....I was in an Aft suite on the Lido...I wrote a review on it. There was very little vibration in our suite, You could feel the thrusters when they were on during docking, and when the ship was in some rough water, you could feel it a bit, but it was negligible..The ship did not feel crowded at all, and I did not miss the Universal Lounge at all...The corner suites did have quite a bit of vibration, but the couple who was next to us did not feel that it was bad enough to complain about...Can't tell you much about the entertainment....The Eastern Med was so port intensive that I think most people crashed....We walked 10-12 miles a day on that trip....I liked the remodel of the Horizon Court. Ate there several times....and the food at the Horizon was some of the best Horizon food I have had. I did not notice a coffee bar there, but the usual coffee bar down in the atrium was fine. It didn't seem crowded either....The gym was terrible....I hated it....and I walked so much in Europe, frankly, I didn't miss the promenade either....I did write a short review on the ship under ships review....The cruise was great....

I was in L723 and the corner cabin was on my left as you go in the door....Not sure what the cabin number was....However in the corner suite, it had 2 huge closets and 2 balconies, not connected....one off of the bed room and one from the living space....the living space was much smaller than in my suite....Their bedroom looked bigger....they said they had more vibration than I did....we compared cabins at the same time...and I believe they were right....but they said it was not hard to live with....

The corner ones apparently seem to have the most problems. The middles ones, not so much....ask Cola Cruiser...he was in the one next to me on my right on the Lido deck. I also understand that the lower you are the less vibration there is, but not sure if that is accurate...
