smokinz51 Posted November 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2015 Taking the RCI on Rhapsody in May 2016 and was wondering if mifi worked at sea and what people did while in Greece and Turkey for internet I searched and found nothing from the past 2 years that satisfied my curiosity I am not interested in ship internet as I am guessing it will be SLOOOOOOWWWWWWW I was thinking a mifi should work since the proximity to the coast was reasonable Thoughts and suggestions are highly welcomed I am from the US, use Verizon and will be flying into Venice the day prior
Clarea Posted November 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2015 Once you are a few miles from the coast, the ship will turn on it's cell tower and you will be connecting to the cell network via satellite, same as the ship's internet.
papaflamingo Posted November 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 9, 2015 We did Greek Isles in Sep. and had no real problem with the WIFI. Rhapsody doesn't have the high speed one, so there were some slowdowns, but it worked just fine.
fredflint Posted November 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2015 Not sure when/if it is planned but the VOOM internet service is really amazing, I was able to stream tv shows from my DVR at home using my iPad to the TV in the room and make VOIP calls that sounded better than cell calls from home. Download speeds were always better than 4 MBs whenever I tested.

impatientlywaiting Posted November 10, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2015 We have T-Mobile and at first site of land we turn our phones off airplane mode and connect with whatever service is available on land. T-Mobile does not charge for international data, and hasn't for several years, so we're never charged for checking emails, checking/posting on Facebook/Instagram, etc. Love it!
