marciemi Posted November 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Trying trying to make sure! DH & I will have the UBP but bringing 2 adult children and trying to do the math and figure out if it's a better deal to bring bottles of wine for them at dinner (paying of course the cost of the wine at home and the $15 corkage fee per bottle) or buying them on the ship (with a 20% discount with the UBP but then paying 18% service charge). Just want to make sure I'm comparing the same things and that there's not an additional 18% added on if the wine is consumed in a dining location or something like that. (No, I'm not trying to give NCL any ideas!). Thanks!
ColinIllinois Posted November 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2015 You are correct. No gratuity on top of the corkage.
SteveH2508 Posted November 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2015 You are correct. No gratuity on top of the corkage. I'm kind of surprised that the corkage fee has not changed - drinks prices up - 15 seems to morph into 18 everywhere else on NCL...
Rare mking8288 Posted November 11, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Pssss, keep it quiet. Don't give the bean counters idea. Just a matter of time, "they" will catch on at some point, sooner but hopefully later. Then, we get another first world "problem" to openly discuss over :D We aren't drinkers so the "stance" is neutral but doesn't mean we will rejoice with raising the fees, not at all. RiotAct Posted November 11, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2015 IMO, that would be the ultimate chintziness.... seeing as the corkage fee IS a service charge in the first place!
backsbanny Posted November 11, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Mr Del Rio has apparently forgotten about this..Its a matter of time to implement this 18% for our convenience of course
hawkeyetlse Posted November 11, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2015 They can just raise the corkage fee if they want. $15 to $18 would have a nice, familiar ring to it :D But there are other lines that charge $20 per bottle, so they could do that and not be out of line with the rest of the industry…
casofilia Posted November 11, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Once you have paid the corkage fee the bottle is yours to drink wherever and whenever you like. If there is no bill there is no 18% to be added. Mike
backsbanny Posted November 11, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Yeah but while you are paying it you can add a 18% gratuity for the lovely person you do the payment to!
SullytheBFG Posted November 11, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 11, 2015 We found Chilean wine really cheap in Florida what I would pay £10-£15 ($15 - $22.50) we found for $6-$9 plus corkage was a no brainer. This January we are on a 2 week B2B with UBP with no gratuity so weeeeeeee. We would have paid for it, it's worth nearly $2k for both of us for the 2 weeks. Deedee85 Posted November 11, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2015 On Royal last year I just opened the bottle in my room and brought the glass with me. Tacky? Perhaps a bit but I own it.

On NCL you pay the corkage when you board and they scan your bags to make sure you haven't packed any alcohol in your case. I doesn't matter if you drink it in your cabin or in the dining room, it's still $15/bottle.

casofilia Posted November 12, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 12, 2015 Wow! Good to know. I won't pay an $18 fee for my $10 wine lol. But you will pay USD15 corkage. Mike
Deedee85 Posted November 12, 2015 #15 Share Posted November 12, 2015 But you will pay USD15 corkage. Mike $15....$18 whatever it is I simply won't bring my own wine onboard. I will simply order a cocktail. It is not that important to me either way.
