Amex Offer

Recommended Posts

I received the offer on my Optima Platimum, and just called HAL to buy beverage cards (it's a very long cruise and, no doubt, a thirsty one).

For those of you who received emails from AMEX confirming your credit, how long did it take?

FYI, the offer showed up on a credit card I never use.

Thx for the great info.

The fact the offer came for a card you never use is likely one of the points of the offer. :) They want to remind you about that card and induce you to use it.

We are new AmEx Platinum card carriers. In selling the hefty annual fee to my husband I told him we get certain perks with HAL when we pay for cruises with it (based on my vague recollection of this thread:).

Is this still the case? If so, is it OBC that appears automatically? Or do we need to book through AmEx Travel department to be eligible for this?

I read through most of these posts and it seems like we should log in and check online for special offers to be activated. Any advice would be appreciated!

You can book through Am Ex Platinum Travel or through a TA who pays an annual fee in order to qualify for their Platinum Card customers to get the benefits. The annual fee is rather moderate in that it applies to all their clients, not a fee for each. Be sure to verify your TA/Am Ex Plat. Travel provide you all benefits for which you qualify. The list has definitely shrunk from what it once was.

An interesting minor outcome of this thread - DH checked, then called AMEX to ask why we weren't getting this offer. They mailed us a check for $20 with an apology that not all offers appear for every cardholder.

I think we didn't get it because we DO use the card a lot to pay big cruise balances already, so the Great Computer in the Sky saw no reason to give it.

Thanks for that tip! Maybe I'll call Amex and see if I can't shame them into $20 as well (since this offer has not appeared on either of our Amex card accounts). ;)

The special Amex "Offers and Benefits" that appear below your online account information are not offered equally to all cardmembers. I have two different Amex cards and the offers, while largely the same for both, do vary somewhat between the two accounts. It's hard to say what logic/algorithms Amex uses to decide which accounts are presented with which offers (although I'm sure past spending figures into the decision).

We're not talking about the "special offers" though, but about the Platinum card benefits - which are visible to all whether or not they already have the card:

"Cruise Privileges Program

Valid for new bookings of voyages of at least five nights made through American Express Travel. May not be combined with other offers unless indicated. Blackout dates, category and fare restrictions may apply. Payment must be made with an American Express Card in U.S. Platinum Card Member or Centurion® Member's name. Card Member must travel on itinerary booked. Benefits listed require double occupancy and are non-transferable. If you are a resident of Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands, Cruise Privileges Program benefits may not be available in your home market. Card Members receive $100 USD shipboard credit for inside and outside staterooms; $200 USD shipboard credit for balcony, verandah, and mini-suite staterooms; and $300 USD shipboard credit for suites on Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Card Members receive $300 USD shipboard credit for all Queen Mary oceanview staterooms category ED or higher, and Queen Victoria/ Queen Elizabeth oceanview staterooms category FA or higher on Cunard Line. Card Members receive $300 USD shipboard credit for all stateroom categories on Oceania, Paul Gauguin, Regent, Azamara, Seabourn, Crystal, Silversea, Uniworld, and Windstar. Centurion Members receive an additional $200 ($500 total) USD shipboard credit on Crystal Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn, and Silversea. Centurion members receive up to $500 USD shipboard credit and will be credited to the guest stateroom folio upon checkout. Credits cannot be used for casino charges and gratuities. Unused portion of credit is non-refundable and is not redeemable for cash. Other restrictions may apply, see onboard cashier for details. Additional amenity not available on the Silversea Expedition Fleet: Silver Explorer, Silver Galapagos, and Silver Discoverer. Limit one benefit package per stateroom; three-stateroom limit per Card Member, per sailing. To obtain benefits, travel agents must visit americanexpress.com/asdonline. Participating providers and benefits subject to change."

The poster you quoted (Caribbean Chris) was talking about the special offers - not the Amex CPP (Cruise Privileges Program) which is what you are referring to.

For clarification, look back to the first post. The special offer apparently was quite separate from your example of holding a Platinum card, booking with an American Express Travel Agency, and receiving a shipboard credit.

It involved receiving a $250 Amex card statement credit if you spent $1,000 with HAL after clicking to add this special offer to your card.

AFAIK, however, these "limited time" offers are available to everyone but you do have to add them to your card. I just checked and I have over 175 offers available, only 10 of which I've actually added.[/QUOTE]

And yet - all limited time offers are NOT always available to everyone - this was our experience and that of other posters who also searched through the many offers in vain after reading Post #1. If it had been there, we certainly would have added it to our card, made our final payment early for an April HAL cruise, and pocketed $250.

In the words of AMEX's letter to us: "We're writing to let you know we are issuing a check of $20 for the account referenced above. This check is being issued as a courtesy because you may not have received Card Member offers that were available on similar cards."

We were rather happy to get the courtesy 20 bucks, though.:)
