Hydro pool lover Posted December 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2015 We are planning to book 2 rooms for the 2017 British Isles. We have one future credit. Will it be worthwhile to go an a short cruise to book while on the ship? For a $10,000 fare how much would the downpayment be? I heard it will be 20% for the second room without a future cruise. And, what benefits extra would there be for booking on the ship?

If you can book a cruise for less than $100 it might be, or if your getting line 20% interest on your money it might be. But all a FCC does on most lines is gives you some onboard credit (normally a max of about $50 over the cost of the certificate) and lets you hold your deposit to final payment day so on $2000 deposit for 90 days you need 20% per annum to get $100 extra interest. SuiteTraveler Posted December 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) For most cruise lines, you pay $250 to get a Future Cruise Credit and get $50 non-refundable Onboard Credit to use on your current cruise. The $250 you actually paid goes towards the fare for your future cruise. Booking on the ship has no impact on the price of the cruise and in fact, you may wind up paying more for the future cruise if you do that. But I don't know what cruise line you are sailing with so is possible it has other rules and conditions in regards to a Future Cruise Credit. With Princess it's $100 for the FCC and you get upto $150 OBC so for two the "profit" is $100, so unless the "short cruise" is less than that it's no use though I guess you can add whatever interest you will earn on the deposit you keep till final payment. Hydro pool lover Posted December 6, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted December 6, 2015 Thank you for your responses. I was hoping they might have added the drink package or paid gratuities.
