You think Cheers is restrictive??

Wow...I was just browsing the NCL site as we are looking into sailing them to Alaska. Granted, they often offer their beverage package as a choice of one of their freebie deals, but still.

Not only do all over 21 have to get the package if one person does, it also applies to anyone sailing in your party--"traveling with"--is how it is stated. So, if you link your reservation to your friends or family for any reason, you all have to purchase the package. Even If you are in connecting cabins on Carnival, the other people don't have to get the package. Plus, if there are people under 21 traveling with you, they are required to get the soda package if the adults buy the alcohol package on NCL. Also, adult soda prices start at 13 (On Carnival, it's 18) and it's more expensive as a base price plus an 18% gratuity instead of 15%.

Sheesh. I guess I will be happy with that 15 drink limit! Grass isn't always greener.....

I think NCL just raised the price of their package also (and if you do get the package as a promo you still have to pay the gratuities on the price you would have paid had you bought it).

While it is nice that CCL doesn't require the entire party to purchase the package, I still wish they would drop the arbitrary 15 cap. I missed Carnival this year when we took our guys cruise group to Royal, but they don't cap their packages. Plus RCI has tiers. As a beer drinker, the cheaper "beer and wine only" package is nice.

Are you sure about that? Never had to do that on NCL in the past.

I still can't bring myself to purchase it, don't think we would get our money's worth out of it as we are mostly beer/wine drinkers. DarthGrady - pretty cool RC offers different packages, wish that was an option with Carnival. Some day maybe!

Yes, it's very odd that Carnival doesn't offer unlimited drinks or tiers for differing tastes. CCL has always been the festive one, it's surprising that they're behind on this.

Did I miss something, or misunderstood, that not all adults have to purchase the drink package if they are in the same stateroom?

On Carnival, all adults 21+ in the same cabin have to purchase Cheers, no exceptions made. This isn't a big deal for us, and we always purchase the package. We think it's one of the best values Carnival offers.

We thought it was a good value too until they started counting the formerly free drink you get in the casino with the On Us card toward your 15 drink limit.

Since I always receive the On Us card from the casino, I won't be purchasing Cheers in the future, I'm not going to spend that much money in the casino and have to pay for my drinks too.

That's not how it works. The only people that have to buy a package are the ones on the same reservation. Not ones that are linked. That is also only for prepurchase. If you wait and buy on the ship then individuals can buy it the whole cabin doesn't have to.

This is true. I've got an NCL cruise booked and we chose the drink package promo. We do have to pay gratuities on it, but it's still less than what we'd typically spend for drinks all together as we aren't huge drinkers.

Okay, that is good to know. Didn't realize it was prepurchase rules that I was reading. Wonder why that is.

For the person who asked, yes all 21 and over in the same cabin have to purchase Cheers, but not all on the same reservation.

On Carnival, the last part of your statement is 100% incorrect.

We sailed on Princess and their beverage package is more flexible. Not everyone in the cabin as to buy the package. I bought the package and my wife didn't. Plus it is unlimited drinks. The only thing is you are not suppose to share drinks. But you know how that goes, I shared some drinks with my wife. Carnival should do the same thing not requiring for both people in the cabin to buy the package.

And then they would make less revenue due to exactly what you quoted.

Why do people feel the need to come here and boast how they can't follow such simple rules?

This is why prices rise and package terms become more restrictive. Why can't people grasp the very logical cause-and-effect of their actions?

Come on get real, I'm not boasting. That being said they make more than enough money off of the drinks packages. For they know that you will not drink to the max every day. And how many times have you followed a simple rule? Everyone breaks rules no matter how good they think they are!!

True, but it depends on where your moral and ethical compasses lie.

I'll not use a blinker every once in a while, and might have a code violation in my backyard, but if it comes to affecting other people directly, those are rules I choose to follow.

No matter how you spin it, sharing drinks drives the price up for everyone. I'm not judging anyone for it, because, ultimately, I couldn't care less what grown men and women do on their own time.

Well TomAceEsq

You are judging!! And if the drink package is unlimited how will it drive the price up for everyone? if I have 20 drinks one day and 19 drinks another day and my wife has 1 drink it's the same amount of drinks each day.

Since I was talking about NCL , my statement was correct, but thanks for trying.

And no where in your post do you state that your statement is about NCL unlike the poster who quoted you who specifically stated, "On Carnival......". Yes, I know you quoted an NCL post but you really need to state you are still talking about NCL since you are on a Carnival forum.

As you stated, thanks for trying but it was an epic fail.
