Wayfairers Posted December 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2015 If you have visited Mangalore, do you have any must do recommendations? I know there are temples, a chapel, a bazaar. Anything else?

Rare Acrusa Posted March 17, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2017 Is there anything of intrest to see in Mangalore, not interested in tour companies. Just interesting sites.
suekay Posted March 18, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2017 We hired a tuk tuk from the port . He took us downtown and accompanied us to a church, then round the fruit/veg market and a small general market. We did pass the temple where coaches from the ship were stopping, but we were templed-out from a previous visit to India so didn't want to visit. It was the least interesting of all the stops in India although we did enjoy the chance to just wander at will
RJHNorthyorks Posted March 21, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 21, 2017 We visited Mumbai, Goa, New Mangalore and Cochin in January of this year. We booked private tours with Mumbai Magic for the first port and with Lijo - Muzaris Tours for the last 3 ports. All the tours were great although Magic tours were probably the best and do I believe offer tours in all the ports. We had some delays getting off the ship in Mumbai and Cochin due to Indian immigration requiring face to face interviews with all passengers. Both tour companies were very flexible and our last tour was amended to accomodate the delayed starting time. On each day we were returned to ship with plenty of time to spare. Mumbai Magic took their payment at the beginning of the tour. Lijo collected the money for his 3 tours at the end of day 3. Information about itineries are on their websites. http://www.mumbaimagic.com/ http://www.muzirisheritagetourism.com/
ScottishMaid Posted March 28, 2017 #12 Share Posted March 28, 2017 Is there anything of intrest to see in Mangalore, not interested in tour companies.Just interesting sites. 4 of us hired a car and driver at the port. He took us to the nearby cashew nut factory. Amazing experience.
suekay Posted March 28, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 28, 2017 The cachew nut factory sounds interesting. Can you remember how far it was from the port and how much you paid for the car? Were there set tines for visiting the factory or can you just turn up? TIA
ScottishMaid Posted March 30, 2017 #14 Share Posted March 30, 2017 The cachew nut factory sounds interesting. Can you remember how far it was from the port and how much you paid for the car? Were there set tines for visiting the factory or can you just turn up? TIA We walked to outside the port gate and negotiated with various drivers. Maybe $60 for a car and driver for the day? The Achal Industries Cashew factory was close by, a 5 minute drive. They gave tours. Other people were visiting. It's 4 years go but I believe we got the idea from a ship tour. We then went to a really good temple, the outside of St Aloysius Jesuit high school where we talked with pupils on lunch break then had lunch in "the best hotel in Mangalore". It was all really interesting and nowhere was crowded.
